
Chica Luna Productions has openings for five interns. All applicants must be able to start June 2007 and stay through end of August 2007.
Our internships are unpaid (unless as noted below) and provide immense hands-on administrative experience and a great introduction to the media industry. We provide college credit where applicable. All applicants must be able to commit to at least 15 hours per week. This is a great opportunity to learn in a supportive, creative and ever-growing progressive environment committed to social justice.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and have a great sense of humor, a wonderful phone manner, work well as a part of a fast-moving- multi-tasking team, possess excellent attention to detail, good follow-up and team player skills, lots of energy, interest in progressive politics, a sense of organization, an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to ask questions when needed. Proficiency in current versions of MS Word and Excel software on a PC and MAC is a must while experience in Final Cut Pro and Filemaker Pro maybe required for specific internships described below.

Chica Luna Productions is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women of color reach the highest levels of achievement in film, television, radio and print media through promoting the advancement, development and funding of their media. Chica Luna Productions exists to develop and support women of color in entertainment media who strive to use popular media to promote social justice for their communities.
Please read below for specific responsibilities and information unique to each position.
MEDIA JUSTICE INTERN (PAID POSITION)
Chica Luna Productions is a nonprofit organization that seeks to develop and identify young women of color who want to produce popular media within a social justice framework. We currently seek an intern to assist us in the development of a popular media justice toolkit. Ideally, the Media Justice Intern will have an interest in media literacy and media justice; excellent research and organizational skills, proficiency in Final Cut Pro and Microsoft Office with a willingness to learn other software and technology as necessary such as Mac the Ripper and DVDXDV Pro, strong writing skills in both English and Spanish.
Responsibilities of the Media Justice Intern will include but not be limited to:
· Conducting online research
· Compiling and maintaining a database of media justice organizations and their resources
· Editing segments of popular media including films, podcasts, etc. to be used in pilot workshops.
· Videotaping pilot workshops and other events.
The intern will begin in June 2007 and will work no less than 5 hours and no more than 15. S/he must also be available on occasional evenings with adequate notice.
FINANCIAL INTERN (PARTIAL TRAVEL STIPEND)
The financial intern would work directly with the Director of Operations. The ideal candidate should be an accounting student or someone who has strong experience with numbers, budgets and data entry. Knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus.
EDITING INTERN (PARTIAL TRAVEL STIPEND)
The editing Intern will assist in the following tasks:
· Maintenance and upkeep of editing stations and its wires.
· Logging and digitizing footage of all projects for the organization.
· Labeling any DV Tapes that are nameless and keeping an archival track record of them.
· Preparing multiple DVD copies of all Chica Luna Films, promos and events.
· Re-Sizing Photos in Photoshop and preparing them to import into FCP 5.
· Editing of actual Chica Luna programming.
Must be proficient in at least Final Cut Pro 5, IDVD or DVD Studio Pro 4 and Photoshop. Must be able to work individually and meet the organization's deadlines. Candidate must have excellent communications and technical skills, be organized and meticulous, and be a creative problem solver.
Specific Proficiency in knowing Video Capture and its appropriate Scratch Disk settings. This applies to video and pictures capturing. Detailed at In-house duplication, authoring DVD's, and creation of DVD Master for outsource delivery.
FUND DEVELOPMENT INTERN (PARTIAL TRAVEL STIPEND)
Chica Luna Productions seeks an intern to assist its current Director of Development with the completion and packaging of all grant and fundraising proposals for the organization. Responsibilities for the position include:
· Aiding in the preparation of grants (i.e. making copies, hand-delivering proposals, etc.)
· Researching potential funders for the organization
· Assisting in the maintenance of grant database
· Assist in the solicitation and stewarding of potential sponsorships from corporations, local businesses, etc.
Deadline and detail orientation is essential for a potential candidate. The ability to think categorically and to work independently and cooperatively to achieve common goals is strongly desired. PC computer literacy, familiarity with the World Wide Web, and excellent interpersonal skills is required.
MARKETING, PUBLIC RELATIONS and COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (PAID POSITION)
The marketing, PR and communications intern must be a multi-tasker. She also must be detail-oriented, have a sense of fun and can work with little supervision. Excellent research skills are also valued for this position. Some administrative duties will be required. The intern will have strong writing skills, a wonderful phone manner, excellent attention to detail, good follow-up and team player skills and an interest in journalism, public relations, film and politics. The intern will also need to be able to streamline our online and e-newsletter efforts. The ideal candidate will assist in content production and other duties associated with creating content for and maintaining chicaluna.com. Applicant must have strong writing and editing skills, some knowledge of HTML and familiarity with graphics manipulation.
All applicants must submit writing samples and be prepared to discuss marketing and or public relations campaigns strategies that appeal to them and pitch/present a mock public relations or marketing campaign during their interview. Finalists will be required to draft a mock press release. Knowledge of PowerPoint is a plus but not required. Applicants with portfolios (writing samples, pr campaigns, marketing campaigns from school projects or previous internships) are encouraged to send in PDF format in support of their applications.

This position requires an understanding of the day-to-day, immediate needs of production, while being mindful of the procedures and controls necessary for corporate.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Extensive experience in all aspects of general and production accounting, cost allocation, payroll, purchase orders, AP, petty cash.
- Weekly payroll and the activities associated with this processing.
.- Experience in basic payroll data such as new hires, termination's, transfers, wage adjustments.
- Perform all of the steps necessary to update the payroll files in preparation for wage payments.
- Will ensure that proper financial approvals are in place before processing payments.
- Review and enter highly detailed invoices to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Enter all invoices and expense reports to proper general ledger account.
- Manage invoice approval process.
- Prepare weekly check runs.
- Maintain current status on all A/P accounts.
- Prepare year end filings 1099's and 1042's.
- Must be proficient in Excel, Vista and EP Budgeting.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Will have an understanding of annual budgets, annual forecasts, reporting, and financial analysis.
- Ability to develop and enforce sound accounting policies and procedures.
- Administrative duties such as filing and copying.
- Other projects as assigned.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be a confident self-starter who is extremely organized. We are looking for a team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Must be able to express thoughts logically in written and verbal for a professional environment; must be able to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. In addition, a Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in accounting and have a minimum of two years of production accounting (film industry) and administrative experience is required.
