Dear NALIP Members:
It is time once again to elect a new slate of Board of Directors for NALIP National. As vested members of NALIP, this is your opportunity to make a difference in how your organization is run in the next three years. We need your energy; your enthusiasm and your ideas to help NALIP better serve the needs of the Latino media-making community.
Our goal is to present a slate of nominees for the 2007 election cycle. We seek recommendations of candidates who will have a marked impact on NALIP’s ability to increase our visibility on a national level, will help increase our fundraising capacity, either directly or through contacts, help expand our National signature programs and inform the creation of new ones that benefit our membership, and who can become active participants in the programs, committees and events that NALIP presents throughout the year.
You are invited to nominate candidates for a 3-year term to the NALIP Board of Directors. You may also nominate yourself if you feel you have the leadership qualities we are looking for. Just follow the guidelines below. A few things to consider before you proceed. First know that:
• Prospective candidates shall be at least eighteen years of age, be a vested NALIP member whose annual membership dues are current and that your status is in good standing, and that your residency or place of employment is in the United States .
• In the same way that our organization supports media makers from around the country, so too can candidates for the Board of Directors be from throughout the continental United States.
• The number of Directors shall be twelve (12) unless the Board of Directors by resolution increases or decreases that number, but in no case shall the number of Directors be less than five (5) or more than fifteen (15). No decrease in the number of Directors shall shorten the term of any incumbent Director.
• At all times the majority of the Board of Directors shall be Latino, or of a Latino origin. At least one third of the Directors shall be producers and/or representatives of producing organizations.
• Each Director shall serve for a term of three (3) years to a maximum of three (3) renewable terms.
Know also that the Board Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:
Each Director shall be responsible for participating actively in the management of the Corporation, which shall include but not be limited to:
A. The hiring, support and evaluation of the Executive Director on an annual basis;
B. Approving policies, guidelines and long-range plans;
C. Enhancing the organization’s public image, both regionally and abroad;
D. Ensuring the organization’s financial stability and solvency by approving an annual budget and reviewing financial statements on a regular basis;
E. Helping to raise money for the organization or identifying prospective/viable funding sources;
F. Evaluating and assessing the performance of the Board; and
G. Participation in a leadership capacity in at least one active committee per year, such as advocacy, fundraising, conference, membership and/or program development, among others.

Here is what you need to do to present your nomination for consideration. Please provide:
1. A detailed Bio outlining your professional, educational and creative
2. A Letter of Intent (LOI) that describes WHY you, or the person you are nominating, wish to be on NALIP’s Board of Directors and WHAT skill sets or capacities you will bring to the benefit of the organization, and
3. Full contact information including phone and email.

Are you concerned about the current state of Latinos working in the film and television industries? Are you a Latina/o artist, actor, or cineaste looking to give back to your artistic and cultural community? Or are you a film student looking for credit and experience working in an entertainment and/or non-profit environment? If so, here is your chance to contribute to the success of the nation's premier Latino media arts organization.
The National Association of Latino Independent Producers, an organization committed to the advancement, development and funding of Latino Media Artists in all genres, seeks reliable and enthusiastic office and membership interns for the winter/spring of 2007.
Intern candidates should have excellent office skills, administrative experience as well as a strong interest in Film/Television and the Latino Community. Typical intern duties will include, but not be limited to: phone, database entry and administrative jobs; assisting the Membership Coordinator with new and renewal membership applications; general office tasks and community outreach. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not required.
We are interested in candidates who will be available at least one or two full days a week, beginning in mid-January. The position will run through the spring or early summer. Our office is located in Santa Monica , a short walk from the coast and Third Street Promenade. This is an unpaid position. We offer course credit and a complimentary one year membership to NALIP. Due to proximity, students at UCLA, SMCC and Loyola Marymount are especially encouraged to apply.
This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a talented team, to familiarize yourself with the entertainment industry and gain valuable experience working with executives.
