Creative Playground Performs
Dia De Los Muertos: Cuentos De Mi Familia
This piece uses the traditions of the Day of the Dead celebration as a means
to tell stories distinctive to the Latin American experience. Dia de los Muertos: Cuentos de mi Familia (stories of my family) is an excellent introduction to the Day of the Dead holiday for children Pre-K through 5th grade.
This interactive play, performed by Creative PlayGround's professional company, tells the story of Alex (played by Daniel Chacon) discovering his heritage with his abuelo (grandfather) (played by Richard Azurdia) and then passing that knowledge on to his friend Hannah (played by Elizabeth Tobias).
Abuelo was a great storyteller and performer with the Teatro Campesino and
much of the play is performed in the commedia style of this troupe. Masks and music are incorporated throughout. Dia de los Muertos: Cuentos de mi Familia is performed primarily in English with the inclusion of many Spanish words and phrases associated with the holiday. There are many opportunities for young audience members to take part in the action.
