Havana Born Andy Garcia Takes You Behind The Scenes of The Lost City
The renowned Hollywood's Master Storytellers series will showcase Andy Garcia's directorial debut, The Lost City, at the Mann Chinese Theatres in Hollywood on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:30 PM. The evening will feature a screening of the film and a Q&A session with the acclaimed actor-director as well as insight into the film's sixteen year development odyssey.
Set during the final turbulent days of Havana's golden 1950s, The Lost City uses the musical tapestry of Cuban culture as a backdrop, telling the story of one man's struggles to hold onto the soul of his people. Conceived in the genre of Casablanca, Cabaret and The Godfather, The Lost City chronicles a nightclub owner caught in the crossfire of revolution -- between the tide of revolt and the destiny of his family, between the woman he loves and the homeland he is forced to leave behind.
The film also features Steven Bauer, Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, and model-actress Ines Sastre.
Stand-up Comedian and TV host Mike Siegel will be Hollywood's Master Storytellers special guest host for The Lost City event. He can be seen nationally every week hosting TBS network's "TBS Movie EXTRA ", HGTV's "If Walls Could Talk", and Fine Living network's "What You Get For the Money" (which also airs on HGTV).

jumping off bridges Screens in San Antonio, Austin and Houston

"Shot in Austin, Texas, and pulled from events in Kat Candler's own adolescence, bridges centers on four teenagers' adventurous and carefree lives — until a mother's suicide rocks their world. Critics have lauded the picture, comparing the look at youth's trials and tribulations to John Hughes' movies (though Molly Ringwald never dealt with anything this heavy). The film boasts an impressive cast, including The Patriot's Bryan Chafin as Zak, the main protagonist. (Chafin also appeared in cicadas, Candler's first feature) Emmy Award-winning actor Michael Emerson plays Zak's father; Emerson was last seen as the elusive and creepy Henry Gale (the head of "The Others") on Lost. And the soundtrack is loaded with enough indie cred to turn Sofia Coppola green with envy, with tracks from American Analog Set, Jose Gonzalez, Explosions in the Sky and Sufjan Stevens. See www.jumpingoffbridges.com for more information." -- The Pitch, Kansas City

URBAN-15 Studios

210.736.1500
For the third year, the URBAN-15 Group has united with The Manhattan Short Film Festival and over 80 other venues across Europe, Canada and the US, to create the world’s largest short film festival to be held throughout two continents this September.
Over the span of a week, venues from Russia to Ireland in Europe, four provinces in Canada along with 35 states will screen a selection of twelve short films that have made the cut into this prestigious event. In the past, the Festival’s finalists, who have gone on to win Oscars and move into the Hollywood mainstream, were judged by a celebrity panel which featured Susan Sarandon, Laura Linney, Eric Stoltz, Tim Robbins and a host of studio reps. This year, the Festival has thrown the judging out to audiences, who will be handed a voting card upon entry to each venue and asked to vote for their favorite film. Votes will be tallied and the winner announced in New York City’s Union Square Park on Sunday, September 23rd.
2006 Finalists (Films are in order of how they will screen in the program)
1: Last Night (Ireland) – Director Conor Morrissey
2: Cigarette Box (Poland) Director Tomek Matuszczak

The Manhattan Short Film Festival is growing in more ways than one. As technology advances and the medium of filmmaking becoming more readily available, the Festival is enriched by stories that might otherwise not be told. "When the festival first started back in 1997, the overwhelming majority of the shorts we received were from filmmakers who were based in major cities such as New York, LA or London," said Festival founding director Nicholas Mason. "Virtually every entry we got back then was shot on 35mm. Now with the evolution of digital filmmaking, filmmakers are shooting their stories and then editing and finishing their shorts on their home computers. We are now getting films from literally every corner of the world, so who better to judge them than a global audience."
A special Youth Media Screening is being offered for students of film and media from the San Antonio region on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The event will include a presentation of the twelve MSFF films and followed by a panel discussion of student and experienced media producers.
For more information visit the Festival’s website at www.MSfilmfest.com or www.urban15.org.
This event is supported by the City of San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs, The Texas Commission on the Arts, The National Endowment of the Arts, American Sunrise, VuTURE ART and the generosity of Friends of URBAN-15.

Writer and NALIP Member Shawna Baca's Sitcom Pilot, "MiX-Matched" is Selected for the 2006 Fox Diversity Writers Program

Shawna has a first look deal with Fox Studios and her script has been optioned. Earlier in 2006, it was selected out of 300 applicants to be part of the Producer's Guild Diviersity Program. "MiX-Matched," is about how world's collide when two women from completely different cultures and lifestyles reluctantly end up as roommates. A 23 year old Paris Hilton-type, washed up model and a fresh out of college, light-skinned Latina teach each other about men, sex, life, culture and how to make the perfect guacamole. Shawna's a filmmaker at heart, so television is new on the horizon as "MiX-Matched," marks her first television pilot and first time working with writing partner David Chester.
