

Nosotros American Latino Film Festival

Ricardo Montalbán and Nosotros, a 501c(3) non-profit organization present the 2006 Nosotros American Latino Film Festival (NALFF) August 24th to the 27th in the epicenter of the entertainment community at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre located at 1615 N. Vine St., Hollywood, CA 90028.
The festive event will showcase the work of American Latino filmmakers and will offer free entertainment industry workshops, panel discussions, a high school filmmaker's showcase, educational programs, networking receptions, and live entertainment. The event is open to the general public and all films are presented in English.

Film Independent's 2006 Producers Lab Deadline Extended To
August 28, 2006
Film Independent is now accepting submissions for its annual Producers Lab
that will take place in Los Angeles during October and November 2006. The
deadline for submissions is August 28, 2006 (postmarked). Sponsored by Technicolor, Film Independent's Producers Lab is an intensive seven-week program designed to help filmmakers develop skills as creative independent producers. Lab fellows develop a strategy and formal action plan for bringing their projects to fruition -including a budget, schedule, and business plan. Fellows have one-on-one meetings with established producers, directors, and other industry professionals who act as advisors to them on their specific projects.
A maximum of ten producers are accepted into the program each year. Some projects that have gone through the Labs are the following: So Yong Kim's
Sundance-winning film, In Between Days; Jessica Sanders' After Innocence, short listed for the Academy Awards' documentary category; Andrea Millers'

Media Arts Center San Diego seeking films and videos for 14th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 8-18, 2007).
Media Arts Center San Diego's prestigious and internationally recognized San Diego Latino Film Festival, soars into a second decade of impressive and exhilarating new activities, special events and initiatives. The 14th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF) is now accepting entries for the 2007 festival. SDLFF will take place March 8-18, 2007 at the Ultrastar Cinemas Mission Valley at Hazard Center located in beautiful San Diego, California. Last year's festival was attended by an audience of 18,000 actively-engaged film lovers, filmmakers, actors, programmers, distributors, industry representatives and journalists. The San Diego Latino Film Festival has used the unique geographical and cultural position of the San Diego Border Region to make the festival a premiere venue for the exhibition of international and U.S. Latino features, shorts and documentaries.

Census Survey Details Shifting Hispanic Language Patterns: Nine out of 10 Latino Youths Speak English Well
A new Census Bureau survey of 3 million U.S. households, released this month, reveals vast differences in English proficiency between young and old and the varied makeup of Hispanics state by state. Young Hispanics are decidedly more fluent in English and less likely to speak Spanish at home, according to an analysis by Ad Age's American Demographics of the 2005 American Community Survey.
