2006/2007 Sundance/Sloan Commissioning Grant
Call for Submissions

Sundance/Sloan Commissioning Grant was established to provide support to filmmakers developing science and technology related narrative.

With this grant, we are able to offer a cash grant as well as creative and practical support for a science or technology related project that is not yet at the script stage, or which is at an early draft.  This grant will also include a small stipend for a science advisor to provide support of the science aspects of the story, and the possibility of inclusion in a Lab.

Projects can be considered if they have science or technology as a major theme or scientists as major characters. We cannot, however, consider science fiction or projects that stray too far from a base scientific reality. We also cannot consider projects that are already being developed within the studio system (including the mini-majors), although it's fine, of course, if they are later made at the studios.

Through this commissioning grant we are able to support filmmakers with a wider range of experience than we currently support in the Screenwriting and Directing Labs, and are excited to be able to consider writers and directors who have made several features in addition to those at an earlier stage in their careers.

Some of the projects that have recently been supported by Sundance (at the festival) and the Sloan Foundation have been Andrucha Waddington’s House of Sand, Shane Carruth's Primer and Werner Herzog's Grizzly Man.

The deadline for applications for this cycle of the Sloan Commissioning Grant is September 1, 2006

You can download the application by following this link:  www.sundance.org/sloanapplication.  Once we have reviewed the application we may ask for either a copy of the source material,  if any, and a writers statement explaining the approach to telling this story, or if it is original, a treatment. We may also request an example of the writer's previous work.

Please contact Ilyse at ilyse_mckimmie@sundance.org with any projects, recommendations or questions.

Seeking Dedicated and Resourceful Co-Producer

Seeking Co-Producer to work with on an ambitious documentary set in the South American country of Bolivia.

"Bolivia: In Transition" (working title; HD, 90 min., color) is a character documentary that will explore the political and social reconstruction of Bolivia through the eyes of three of its citizens (see description below). A Co-Producer is needed to help continue developing the film, to search and help apply for funding, and to help oversee production when it commences in 2007. Given that payment will be deferred until enough funding is secured, the Co-Producer can take on as much of these responsibilities as he/she can. Although the Co-Producer is encouraged to travel to Bolivia to assist, I am also open to working with a person who prefers to be based in the U.S. (or elsewhere) while I am working abroad. Experience with fundraising, producing international documentaries and some fluency in Spanish would be ideal, but not necessary. Most importantly the key is to find a filmmaker of like mind to work with, so if you are interested in working internationally and making socially conscious films, then I would love to hear from you.

Please email a resume/filmography and cover letter describing your relevant experience and why you are interested in the position to Bolivia.in.transition@gmail.com

Any questions about the position or the project in general will be promptly answered there as well.

Coordinating Assistant Wanted For Sandra Lord: Los Angeles, CA

Overview: You will be working in a very creative, fun, fast-paced, but meticulous environment with tremendous growth potential, real hands-on experience, and exposure to several aspects of the entertainment industry.

We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a great attitude, and the ability to set the bar, not simply meet it. This is a job for a resourceful, outgoing, entrepreneurial, proactive, adaptable thinker and team player. Experience is a plus, but does not take priority over ethics, character, integrity, personality and an eagerness to learn. We will train.

Duties: General office administration; event coordinating, including booking speakers and panelists; database entry and management; clientele support, relations, and development; research; attending industry events; and interviewing entertainment industry heavyweights/players; possible travel.

Qualifications: Ability to prioritize and multi-task is ESSENTIAL. The ideal candidate must have impeccable front office presentation, be organized, detail-oriented, computer literate (proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat -- any graphics program a plus), eager to learn, knowledgeable and passionate about the entertainment industry, confident and comfortable dealing with the offices of top players in the entertainment industry, possess excellent phone, people and networking skills. Candidates must be able to follow directions, but also have the ability to work on own initiative and under pressure, and must understand and embrace the importance of confidentiality. Moreover, the ideal candidate must have an innate/genuine desire to help others realize their dreams.

This is a fulltime position with several strict deadlines to be met on a regular basis, and requires focus and commitment. The candidate must be someone who is interested in working exclusively behind the scenes in the entertainment industry. Therefore, we would prefer an office administrative type, who is not pursuing a career as an actor/performer/writer/director/producer.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

TO APPLY:
Please send your cover letter, resume and list of references to Sandra Lord, Attn: Coordinating Assistant, P.O. Box 2668, Hollywood, CA 90078 by August 11, 2006. Please, no phone calls or drop-offs at the office. Ms. Lord is away and will be back in L.A. to interview from August 17 – 24, including the weekend if necessary.  Thanks much.
