Water & Power
by Richard Montoya for Culture Clash
Directed by Lisa Peterson
World Premiere
With: Mateo Arias, Moises Arias, Dakin Mattews, Richard Montoya, Emilio Rivera, Winston J. Rocha, Ric Salinas, Herbert Siguenza
Culture Clash is back in a story of power and politics told with a pulsing city beat.
Twin brothers, nicknamed Water and Power, are on their way to take Los Angeles. Water is an ambitious state senator. Power a top-ranking police lieutenant. There can be no power without water, and no water without power. The brothers soon find themselves at opposite ends of an abuse-of-power city scandal. Who really runs the streets of LA? The police? The gangs? The politicians?
It’s LA, where no amount of sunlight can illuminate the shadows.

World Film Magic, a Hollywood based film and DVD distribution company, announces two new releases for July, Love Takes Time and Los Tres Michoacanos.
Award-winning Love Takes Time, produced by Melvina D. Saldaña and directed by Quincy Reyes, stars Jaylani Roberts in a romance in the tradition of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale. Maybe yearning for love is like a dry desert yearning for rain, even though rain will eventually destroy it. Shakira has all these questions and more, and she soon finds out the truth. When she finds Duane, she is seeking the perfect man, but disappointment is on the horizon. When Nick comes into the picture, he appears to be a life raft from heaven to rescue her. Will she confuse a coincidence with fate? How far will she let this life raft take her into uncharted waters? Love Takes Time has won awards at the New York Latino Film Festival, the San Diego Film Festival, Festival de Cine in Havana, Cuba, and the International Black Women's Film Festival; it has been entered in other festivals in Italy, Poland, Canada, and Mexico.
Los Tres Michoacanos stars Mexican cinema favorites Hugo Stieglitz and Armando Infante, son of the legendary Pedro Infante, as well as starlet Costa Rica Kelyn Peña. Produced by Javier Gutierrez and directed by Hugo Stieglitz, it is the story of three mechanics, friends who specialize in high tech cars and trucks and all fall in love with the same girl. It’s a fight between good and evil in which fast cars, high stakes gambles, a gang of car thieves, and betrayals bring romance, danger and humor. The film also features the music of Los Perez with songs by Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Banda San Francisco.
Both films are available on July 25, 2006 at www.worldfilmmagic.com and from selected major retail outlets.

As debuts go, Guillermo Arriaga's explosive screenplay for "Amores Perros" is hard to beat. "21 Grams," his follow-up with director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, provided more than enough emotional red meat for Benicio Del Toro and Naomi Watts to carve into Oscar nominations. For his next trick, Arriaga nabbed the prize for best screenplay at Cannes 2005 for "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," a modern Western about friendship, responsibility and the unintended effects of violence. "Babel," which stars Brad Pitt and garnered the best director award for Inarritu this year at Cannes, opens in the fall. Michael Fox speaks with...
