NALIP supporter Michael D. Olmos, son of Edward James Olmos, makes his directorial debut with SPLINTER, the edgy urban tale of crime and corruption on the streets of L.A.  Splinter is a noir thriller, a battle of wills between gangs and cops in a neighborhood plagued by a psychotic killer. It features an ensemble cast of talented new actors alongside fan favorites Edward James Olmos and Tom Sizemore.

Look out for Splinter as it makes appearances in festivals around the country. Final dates aren’t announced yet, but it is slated for release early next year. SPLINTER premieres at the NY Latino International Film Festival: Wed. 7:00 PM/Fri. 9:00 PM @ Lighthouse International.

Splinter was produced by Dark Horse Indie [www.dhentertainment.com] and Image Entertainment in association with Chamber Six Productions  (www.chambersix.com] and Stonehenge Pictures.

On the streets of Los Angeles, two gangsters, Dreamer (Enrique Almeida) and Dusty (Noel G), unite over the mysterious murder of their brother. Out for revenge, they cross paths with Detective Gramm (Resminé Atis), a rookie cop partnered with a corrupt veteran (Tom Sizemore). Amidst a rising body count, an ineffective Captain (Edward James Olmos), and the threat of an all-out gang war, these four characters find themselves locked into a ruthless endgame that leaves no one safe.

Thieves And Liars (Ladrones Y Mentirosos); Puerto Rico-U.S.

By Ken Eisner for Variety
Novelistic detail of life in modern Puerto Rico is both the challenge and the reward of "Thieves and Liars," which manages to cram in just about every evil visited upon the island in the name of drugs. Pic is strong as an ensemble piece and a "Traffic"-like how-they-done-it, and could fare well in Spanish-lingo markets. Helmers Ricardo Mendez Matta and Poli Marichal shared a best-director award at this year's Phoenix fest.

Oscar (Steven Bauer) seems like a fairly good guy until, in avenging wrongs done to his buddy (Cesar Farrait), he turns twice as bad as the drug boss he displaces.
Subtly crafted saga interweaves tales of several families into a tapestry of trouble caused by Puerto Rico's growing role as a major transit point in moving narcotics from Latin America to the States.

Secondary thread follows Wanda (Magda Rivera), an airport worker who runs a legitimate storage business; a tough newspaper reporter (Mexico's impressive Elpidia Carrillo); the reporter's teenage son (Carlos Paniagua) who takes drugs, and her intransigent ex-husband(Dennis Mario). Other characters include Oscar's sexy young mistress (Lymari Nadal).
