In addition to our professional services and annual Conference and Exhibition, the NATPE Educational Foundation bridges the gap between the academic community, students and the television industry.

Dear Compinches and Compinchas,

I have been remiss on my duties as "Editor" of this newsletter not sharing with you more of my ramblings. Ay, Ching-ao!.... I even didn't publish one of my customarily reviews on our big event (NALIP's Conference at Long Beach), but between time required to rest from the crunch of Feb-Mar (the two busiest months on one of my businesses), catching up with back log on the other businesses, pay back for previously neglected family time and other very important time consuming tasks (like all that time playing solitaire in my computer), I have just kept pushing it to the back burner. At least, in my defense, I can say that I continue in a daily basis fishing the Net for news stories to share with all of you.

Now... this brings me to the reason why I am coming out of el hoyo en que me escondo. To fish the Net for news about Latinos,... IS THE ONLY THING I HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THIS NEWSLETTER FOR A LONG, LONG, TIME NOW. OK, with the exception of the occasional written word diarrhea like this one.

This outstanding and very helpful newsletter (and, again, I can say so, without any self-tooting-horn-guilt, because is very little I do for it now) is being put together by other people in the back rooms of NALIP. Our just recently departed Membership Coordinator, Jose Murillo, and Webmistress, Samantha Smith, some time ago, took the newsletter to the high excellence level that we all enjoy now. It is them to whom we all owe so much.

And now, Sammy, that great pillar of strength, that unselfish hard working supporter, that incredible gorgeous taco-de-ojo, is leaving us now. Estoy llorando lagrimas a mares, not only because she made this newsletter not only easy to read and attractive to look at, but because I NEVER had to worry about how or when was going to be going out, she made sure that it was always perfect in looks and functionality and always on time (even when we have never been tied to a periodical fixed publishing period).

I first had to deal with Sam working in prep of the Conference in Santa Barbara, three years ago. I was amassed of a gringuita that had so unselfish attitude, was so committed to the Latino cause, was so extremely efficient and very pleasant to work and talk with, all this while we only had contact via the web and phone. Then, the conference arrived and I got to meet her in person... Shitake Mushrooms! Alexito was down for the count.

She has been all kinds of support in a voluntary and professional ways to our organization. Reliable and accommodating, are two of the first descriptions that come to mind. (OK, OK, GORGEOUS is the first one, but... I'm happily married and our love needs to stay in the Platonic Level only). We all, EACH ONE OF US, owe her not only for her contributions as Webmistress and DE-facto Creative-Editor of this newsletter, but also for her tireless work as Conference Breakfast Meetings Coordinator, Travel Coordinator, Conference Program Editor, Alexito's Therapist and Stand By Shoulder and all the other duties she did for all of us during the Conferences, Signature Programs and times in between.

Sam, even when I know that I will be seeing you again soon as a NALIP member, that I know you will continue to be (otherwise, I will be now slashing my leftover carotid artery), I will be missing your good attitude, help, support, and cheers (and, yes, yes, your beautiful... PERSONALITY). When the next crunch at the next conference comes by, those long nights will be horripilantes, without you at my side. At least, I know I will not need to miss your friendship.

Love forever, Alexito, El Tristesito

P.S. NOW... Murio la Reina, Que Viva La Reina! Please all join me on welcoming our new Co-Editor/Webmaster, Dina Fuentes, that will have the pinche task of filling two sets of very big shoes, but after talking to her and checking out here work for the last two issues, darn... she catches up quick, Bienvenida! (Good, it looks that I will not be having to work much more than I was doing before!)
