Independent Filmmaker Screens "Soledad Is Gone Forever" at NALIP Film Conference -- Los Angeles
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/02/2006 -- Local writer/director and NALIP—San Francisco Chair, Mabel Valdiviezo will show the rough cut of her short film "Soledad Is Gone Forever" at the ‘Nalipsters on View’ screening on March 11, part of the NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) film Conference. Attending the event at the Long Beach Hyatt Regency Hotel are lead actress Carla Sanchez and Haiku Films Managing Director Cesar V. Teague.
Chilean born composer, Axel Herrera worked on the current musical score and board advisors Diana Fuller, Gail Silva and Toney Merritt helped with film editing to the present version. Recently, Valdiviezo presented the making of the film at a San Francisco State University workshop for emerging filmmakers, facilitated by veteran filmmaker Toney Merritt. "It was truly a practical, eye-opening experience for the attendees to learn first-hand the emotions and commitment necessary to produce such compelling work," said Mr. Merritt.
Valdiviezo's script originally generated buzz among industry experts at the Squaw Valley Workshop last August. "Soledad Is Gone Forever" is an intimate psychological portrait of a Chilean photographer exile living in San Francisco. The film gives voice to a global community of forgotten exiles, offers the universal hope of healing from war and delivers a resolve to prevent further violations of an individual's human rights.
The script for the Feature Film version highlights Soledad's return to her native country to investigate the truth about her father's remains and reconcile with the country's violent past. A haunted survivor of the Pinochet era in the '80s, Soledad Gonzalez is visited in visions and nightmares by an 8 year old girl offering a mysterious pair of red shoes that hold the key to her traumatic experience as a child in Chile.
The short is a Super 16mm film production of Haiku Films sponsored by Kodak and Spy Post. The project is seeking additional sponsors, an Executive Producer, as well as assistance with sound design, sound mixing and 2D effects.
