ALFONSO ARAU NAMED SAN DIEGO LATINO FILM FESTIVAL 2006 GUEST DIRECTOR

* Arau In Attendance March 18 & 19th!

* Tickets & Schedule on-line at: http://www.sdlatinofilm.com

* ~ Festival Honors Arau's Five Decades of Distinguished Acting and Directing Work ~

The San Diego Latino Film Festival 2006, presented by Lincoln Mercury, is excited to spotlight the internationally renowned film actor, writer, director and producer, Alfonso Arau as this year's festival guest director.  Arau's directorial debut in Mexico took off with 1969's "El águila descalza". "The Barefoot Eagle" brought him critical acclaim and enabled Alfonso to use his multiple talents in the U.S. film industry as well.  In 1969, he acted in Samuel Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch". Alfonso is widely known for his roles in 1975's "Posse", "Romancing the Stone" in 1984, and in 1986 "Three Amigos".

Then in 1992, rich dark chocolate aromas and the sensual textures of "Like Water for Chocolate" radiantly glowed across the screen. From an adaptation of Laura Esquivel's novel, " Como agua para chocolate" soared with Arau's directing and producing, and is Mexico 's most successful film ever. The film received ten out of twelve Ariel Awards, an equivalent of Mexico 's Oscars. Hollywood took notice, and Alfonso Arau's first U.S. directing assignment came in 1995 with "A Walk in the Clouds", starring Keanu Reeves.

Arau's diverse acting and directing roles include "Catch a Falling Star" in 2000 and "Picking Up the Pieces", in 2003 "A Painted House", and most recently Arau is in the film documentary "Ni muy, muy...ni tan, tan...simplemente Tin Tan" (also spotlighted with a tribute during SDLFF 2006).

As Guest Director, the 2006 San Diego Latino Film Festival has asked Alfonso Arau to curate films that have influenced him as a director. Alfonso Arau will be present at the festival to introduce the films he curated:

The Wild Bunch - Sunday, March 19th, 1:30 p.m. (1969, Director Sam Peckinpah and Buzz Henry, Rated R, 148 minutes) - An aging band of outlaws makes one last score and heads to Mexico with a band of bounty hunters on their heels. They leave a trail of bloody mayhem and violence.

Amarcord - Sunday, March 19, 4:00 p.m. (1974, Director Federico Fellini, Rated R, 125 minutes) - A nostalgic, fantastical, and quasi-autobiographical look at life in the Italian seacoast town of Rimini during the 1930s.

Rashomon - Saturday, March 18, 1:30 p.m. (1950, Director Akira Kurosawa, Unrated, 88 minutes) - In ancient Japan , a woman is raped and her husband killed. The film gives us four viewpoints of the incident - one for each defendant - each revealing a little more detail. Which version, if any, is the real truth about what happened?

Like Water for Chocolate - Saturday, March 18, 5:00 p.m. (1992, Director Alfonso Arau, Rated R, 148 minutes) - Story of forbidden love that takes place on a ranch in Mexico near the Texas border in 1910, during the Mexican Revolution.

All screenings take place at UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas at Hazard Center ( 7510 Hazard Center Dr, Suite 100 , San Diego , CA 92108 ).  Tickets range from $6.50 to $8.50 for film screenings, $10 to $25 for concerts and galas.  For complete information on group rates, festival passes, and a festival schedule, visit the SDLFF website at http://www.sdlatinofilm.com or call 619-230-1938.

Alex Reymundo’s One-Hour Comedy Special, HICK-SPANIC, was just filmed at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on February 17-18, 2006 to FOUR SOLD-OUT SHOWS!

Hollywood, CA-February 27, 2006 —Alex Reymundo returns from Albuquerque , NM this past weekend, with much to be proud of, and in his footsteps, Albuquerque did follow. From the producer of “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy”, Payaso Entertainment brings to you Alex Reymundo’s first one-hour comedy special.

Four audiences of 700 adoring seat-filled fans cheered Alex Reymundo as he performed his first one-hour comedy special rocking the house with his uniquely branded style of comedy “Hick-Spanic,” half Hillbilly and half Hispanic. Alex was introduced to the stage by a specially composed and arranged music performance by Eric Knudson, the lead guitarist for the Heavy Metal band, Phantom X, one of the top 10 Charting Metal Bands in Europe . The night opened with the audience being warmed up by fellow veteran Latin King of Comedy, Joey Medina, who just completed shooting his own comedy special, Latin-Palooza.

The FOUR SOLD OUT SHOWS began with a Red Carpet Event sponsored by AUDI. Five A8-L 8-cylinder luxury cars and the newly previewed Q-7 SUV, top-of the-line first time to touch the North American soil, escorted Alex and the production team to the Roy E. Disney’s Theatre of Performing Arts. In closing to four standing ovations, Alex left his mark on the hearts and minds of Albuquerque fans by concluding; “I made you laugh and now I hope I make you think,” as 23-year old maestro Quetzal with a blue electric violin accompanied Alex Reymundo as he concluded his performances with profound words. As Alex would have it, he left his audiences not only laughing but thinking.

Most importantly, Alex Reymundo was on. Alex delivered the comedy commanding the stage at all times reminiscent of comedy greats Jeff Foxworthy and George Lopez. Alex delivered the punch at every turn leaving the audience with only one conclusion, that there is a new Latin breed of comedy in town and it’s Alex Reymundo.

Shot with multiple HD (Sony 900) cameras, two jibs, fischer dolly on track and one steadi-cam, the quality of the shoot was lead by veteran Lighting Designer Tom Beck (HBO’s Schimmel) and Robert Kerwath. The design of the set was backed by elements of Albuquerque ’s infamous night sky against the Sandia Mountains and was the backdrop to Alex’s award winning performance.

Produced by Payaso Entertainment in association with Funny As Hell productions with executive producers, Scott Montoya (“The Original Latin Kings of Comedy”), Neal Marshall (Schimmel, Rodriguez, Robert Klein), Alex Reymundo (“The Original Latin Kings of Comedy”), Ross Denny (Angels with Angles), Jeff Fishman (Fishman Productions, Ltd.); Producer, Yvette Yates (“The Latin Divas of Comedy”) and Director, Jorge Gaxiola (“7 Mujeres, Un Homosexual, y Carlos”).
