JULIETA Y RAMON

by Michael Ferraro (2006-01-11)

2005, Un-rated, 17 minutes, M30A Films

If there is anything the invention of the internet has taught us, it’s that some people have the strangest fetishes. In this new short from director *Hugo Perez, there is another to add to the pot – The Reagan Fetish. And yes, the Reagan in question is the late Ronald Reagan.

Julieta (Ana Asensio) is so passionate about the actor-turned-president-turned-former president, she asks her lovers to say infamous Reagan quotes during sex. An obvious turn-off for any male, she often resorts to masturbation while listening to the man himself on the television by means of recorded speeches playing through her VCR.

Finally she meets Ramon (Javier Machado) who is equally afflicted with an engrossment of his own – feet. The two don’t really hit it together that well but they each are willing to try and make their weird obsessions work with each other. This interesting dynamic is perfectly complimented by the actors’ take on their roles. They are careful not to overdue the silliness and they are humane enough to make this scenario work brilliantly which could also be attributed to the sharp writing skills of Perez and Andreas Wagner. Also helping them is how magnificently shot and tightly constructed the film is. “Julieta Y Ramon” is one of the most humorous and touching shorts I’ve seen in a while.

AIM TELL-A-VISION CHOOSES CASTELLÓ TO OVERSEE EXPANDING AD SALES GROWTH

- AIM Event Marketing Formed As Content Company Continues Growth Spurt -

New York, January 10th, 2006 -The AIM Tell-A-Vision® Group (AIM TV), pioneering producers and distributors of English language programming for the U.S. Latino market, announced today the hiring of a key industry professional to oversee its rapidly expanding advertising sales, while simultaneously announcing the formation of AIM Events, an event marketing division.

Joining the company as Vice President of Advertising Sales, is Michael Castelló, who will be responsible for overseeing ad sales for the rapidly growing company’s syndicated programming. He will report directly to AIM TV CEO, Robert G. Rose.

Castelló comes to AIM TV with over thirty years of experience in the media industry including high-level positions in radio where he built and led national radio networks, local radio sales departments, and entrepreneurial start-ups. His background includes multiple successes in Spanish language and English language media.

Castelló most recently served as Vice President of MediaAmerica en Español, a division of Jones Media Networks. Launched by Castelló in 1998, the division grew to become the largest radio barter syndication network in the U.S. to serve the Spanish language market at that time.

“Michael is a valuable addition to AIM TV. He arrives at a critical juncture when our distribution, ad sales and audience levels are at all time highs,” said Rose. “Michael and other recently added executives allow us to strengthen our position as the go-to leader for marketers who wish to reach the over 25 million U.S. born, American Latino market.”

The New Year also brings the launch of AIM Events, an event marketing arm to the vertically integrated television media company. AIM Events will consult, package and execute events for marketers who want to add event marketing to their television campaigns.

“AIM Events offers advertisers and affiliates a powerful, local and national, venue to reach American Latinos. Combined with the unrivaled reach of our television properties we are creating a powerful one-two punch for marketers” says Rose.

AIM TV is best known for producing and distributing award winning, English language programming for U.S. born Latinos. Its roster of programs includes American Latino TV®, LatiNation, Sonidos Specials, The American Latino Presents Specials and Play More TV.

Cash Prizes and Breadth of Films Propel the Miami International Film Festival into Top Tier of Festivals As 2006 Film Program is Announced

Knight Foundation Contributes $250,000 to Prizes for Independent Filmmakers

The 23rd Annual Miami International Film Festival will take place March 3 - 12, 2006
117 Films—92 Features and 25 Shorts—Highlight 2006 Festival
Including 10 World Premieres, 34 International, North American & U.S. Premieres, and 31 East Coast Premieres

MIAMI , January 10, 2006 – The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), presented by Miami Dade College (MDC), announced today the full schedule of films for the 23 rd annual festival to be held March 3-12, 2006 . The Opening Night film this year will be the World Premiere of "Heartlift" ("Lifting de Corazón”) from director Eliseo Subiela. The Closing Night film will be the East Coast Premiere of “Friends With Money” from director Nicole Holofcener starring Jennifer Aniston and Frances McDormand.

"With the amount of fresh perspective and cultural diversity in this year’s program, the vision, spirit, and stature of the Miami International Film Festival has never felt more tangible,” said Festival Director Nicole Guillemet. “Emphasizing the multicultural aspect of the Festival, 71 films, or 77%, of our films this year are by international filmmakers, 55 films, or 60% of our films are by 1st or 2nd time directors and 24 (30%) are by women directors. And now, with the wonderful contribution of Knight Foundation, the Festival is taking on a new role that builds community, bridges communities, and transforms communities.”

Eighteen films will premiere at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts while twelve films will be competing in the Dramatic Features - World Cinema Competition, thirteen films in the Dramatic Features - Ibero-American Cinema Competition and seventeen films in the Documentary Features – World & Ibero-American Cinema Competition round out the categories. Additionally, the Festival will screen 32 films, including both dramatic and documentary films, in the International Panorama categories. The Shorts Programs comprise the balance of the schedule with a total of 25 short films.

Films in the Dramatic Features - World Cinema Competition, Dramatic Features - Ibero-American Cinema Competition and Documentary Features – World & Ibero-American Cinema Competition are eligible for a Knight Grand Jury Prize along with audience awards.

The Opening Night film this year will be "Heartlift" ("Lifting de Corazón”). In director Eliseo Subiela’s sexy, frothy meditation on the madness of love, a successful plastic surgeon confronts a mid-life crisis and lives to tell the tale – just barely. In addition to being a World Premiere at this year’s festival, "Heartlift" ("Lifting de Corazón”) was also a MIFF Encuentros project in 2003.

The Closing Night film will be the East Coast Premiere of “Friends With Money.” With a fine ensemble cast of Jennifer Aniston, Frances McDormand, Catherine Keener, and Joan Cusack, “Friends With Money” centers on a group of people on the brink of middle-age who only pretend to have it all together.

For the fourth year, the Festival will present Encuentros, which gives emerging producers from Spain and Latin America the opportunity to present new projects to U.S. industry professionals: producers, sales agents, television stations and distributors. This intensive three-day event fosters dialog, builds lasting connections and offers opportunities for networking and the nurturing the next generation of filmmakers, providing access to distributors and thus, to the public.

The Miami International Film Festival brings the best of world cinema to South Florida and plays a leading role in maintaining and further enriching its film culture. MIFF uses the unique geographical and cultural position of Miami to be a premiere venue for the exhibition of international and US films, with a special focus on Ibero-American cinema.
