"Awesome..." is a first not only for Beastie Boys but for the concert film genre: a Beastie Boys concert shot by 50 fans on hand-held cameras at the band's sold-out 2004 Madison Square Garden homecoming event. Sounds like a truly momentous occasion right? It's a shame you weren't there, but now here is your shot.

Will Children’s ‘Voices’ Be Heard at This Year’s Oscars?
NALIPsters:
I hope that you are all in good health and good spirits. To you and your families we wish many blessings.
We come to you to ask for your help because you are either a friend, a colleague or our paths have crossed at some point in the last few years of our lives. Some of you know about our journey with our film “Innocent Voices” in the last two years. We have received nearly 30 International Awards including the Producers Guild of America Stanley Kramer Award, Berlin Film Festival Best Picture, Seattle Film Festival Audience Award, National Board of Review Freedom of Expression Award, among many others. Last year we were Mexico´s Official Entry to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film
The film has found distribution worldwide through Fox in Mexico and Latin America where we were Mexico´s highest box-office grossing film for 2005 and broke records in El Salvador . LionsGate Films is distributing to the rest of the world, including Japan where the film opens this coming January. It took us nearly one year to find distribution in the United States .
Given that our distribution company has been working with a limited budget, they are unable to help us with this…and this being the Academy Awards campaign.
Luis Mandoki, the director of the film and I feel that it would be a dishonor to the film’s message not to try this. We have seen lives change right before our very eyes because of this film. A 17 year old boy in Mexico City approached Luis, crying, he hugged him, and said that he wanted to thank him for the film because it saved his life. The boy was about to commit suicide when he saw Innocent Voices and then decided not to because through it, he realized that his tragedies were not that tragic…it gave him a different perspective on life.
Luis and I are financing the Academy Awards campaign. We feel it is important for this film to be seen all across America . And that any nominations would help this purpose. Our submissions are for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (the little boy), Best Supporting Actress (Leonor Varela), Best Cinematography, Best Editing.
Because of our limited budget, there’s not enough for publicity in the trades, and since we cannot compete with the millions of dollars big studios pour on their campaigns, we are asking everyone for help. We have what those studios don’t have: You
We are launching this grassroots campaign now, counting on you, your word of mouth and on the press that have so passionately supported us. Our story is: ‘Will Children’s Voices be heard at this year’s Oscars?’ We know it is not just one film that can change things…but it is at least a grain of sand that when we unite them to many other past, present and future grains, we can create a shore that leads to the oceanic life of peace among men and especially, that protects the innocence of our children everywhere.
If you are receiving this email is because you are a leader, we have in our hands the opportunity to help the over 300,000 children fighting in armed forces around the world in more than 40 countries whose voices are not yet being heard. And to stop many others from having to face that kind of future. Help us help them.
The goal is to let every Oscar Academy Member know that the film will be in their mailboxes in the first week of January and that they should watch it. If we can get them to watch it, we stand a chance. Those children stand a chance
With all of our hearts, we thank you. Anything you feel could be of help, go ahead and do it…follow your instincts…they will not be wrong. From getting Oprah to see it, to getting this story printed in the NY Times, we need to get everyone talking about our campaign and the film. In the name of children who need us…LET’S MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!
With so much love, appreciation and respect,
Oscar Torres –Writer & Luis Mandoki – Director, Innocent Voices

2005 Best Television: 'Battlestar Galactica'
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Wed, 28 Dec 2005 9:15 PM PST
Despite a lackluster fall season on the broadcast networks, overall 2005 was a good year in TV entertainment. So good, in fact, that it was particularly difficult to pick which shows made the Top 10 and which fell just outside.
Will Salsa Legend’s BIO Give J.Lo a Career Boost?
New York Newsday Thu, 29 Dec 2005 10:56 AM PST
Salsa legend Héctor Lavoe passed away in June 1993, but like most troubled entertainers who die prematurely, his legend grows by the day. His signature moment was as a member of the Fania All-Stars, performing the song "Mi Gente" in front of tens of thousands of fans in Yankee Stadium in 1975. When he sang to "mi gente" (my people), he was helping New York Latinos understand who they were…
Compiled by Anthony Kaufman (January 2, 2006)
For the past eight years, indieWIRE's editors and contributors have put together a list of the best films we saw that didn't get U.S. distribution. For 2005, there were a number of strong contenders, which we have narrowed down to the top ten listed below (plus six honorable mentions). We didn't include films that were self-distributed this year, nor did we include 2004 films already acquired for release in 2005.
