Pagan-Images, Inc. is currently in research and development on the feature-length documentary, "Bronx Burning." We are looking to identify families who lived through the turbulent period covered in the documentary - 1960s-1990 - to share their experiences in recorded/taped sessions. The interviews will commence in the spring of 2006.
We are also looking for photographs, home movies and related media documentation specifically linked to the burning of the Bronx , for use in the documentary. These include footage of the people in the community during at the height of the destruction, pro-action community rallies and demonstrations, as well as footage/photos that demonstrate family life as an anchor of the community's subsequent resurrection. The initial interviews will be used as a warehouse of information and oral histories leading to a town hall meeting and community reunion that will be filmed to be included in the documentary. In addition, it is anticipated that two families will be selected to integrate against the main narrative timeline.
Individuals interested in being considered for an on-camera interview, or who have leads on possible candidates, contact Edwin Pagan, producer/director, at epagan@pagan-images.com, for more information.
About "Bronx Burning":
Bronx Burning is the story of the tragic events and misguided policies which almost led to the destruction of a major U.S. city -- the South Bronx -- and the residents who decided to stay and fight back to reclaim their neighborhoods and bring them back from the ashes of neglect, economic opportunism and political indifference. The hour-long documentary chronicles the life experiences of two American families through the rise, fall, and resurrection (1960s - present) of the most maligned region in the country and the events that led to the region becoming synonymous worldwide with urban decay and abandonment. Bronx Burning chronicles the triumph of community-in-action and the leaders who struggled to reverse the downward spiral leading ultimately to the region being recognized as an " All American City " in 1997 by the National Civic League.

A documentary about the Latinas who clean your homes and help take care of your children…giving them a face and a voice.
“The success of this documentary is that we become engrossed in each individual story and the bigger questions raised start to demand an answer…how will a child view the woman hired to care for him when he’s older? The film posits that they will either grow up seeing the Latinas as their servants or, hopefully, they will grow up with an appreciation of another culture and language different from their own. Only time will tell.” –Plume Noir

Mis Estimados Compinches y Compinchas:
As you all know, or at least I hope you do, I am very mindful of your time and attention dedicated in reading our newsletter and that is why I don't abuse of them with my senseless ramblings that often. Even this year I refrained on sharing with all of you my drunken escapades at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (it was, as usual, awesome!).
But I guess is just so much I can resist the temptation of rambling, knowing that I count with your sympathetic ears (well in this case, eyes). And what better opportunity than that of the end of the year not only to thank you all for your good vibes and wishes all this year, specially during my bad health scare, but also to wish you all la mas feliz de las Navidades (o cualquier otra celebracion que sea de tu gusto) y el mejor de todos los Años Nuevos.
You may also know, or may not (been that I am very humble and discrete of it), that I am a Red Cross Volunteer at the San Gabriel/Pomona Valley Chapter. I am a member of their Disaster Action Team (first responders), as well as a Public Information Officer (for Spanish media). I do not bug my friends (that often) asking them to support our very well intentioned and (against what media reports may say of lately...), very effective organization. But, this time I take the opportunity to kindly request for you to give some consideration to giving some additional support to it. We truly need it.
Well, ya sin ninguna pena,... que traigan los tamales, pulque, tequila, mojitos, pavo, rompope, etc. que vamos a fiestar!!!
Salud y MUCHO AMOR!
