Short #2: “MexMan” – Short SciFi Comedy
A young immigrant travels to the United States seeking opportunity and has his life transformed when a tragic accident places him in the hands of a mad scientist
and his fiendish assistant.
BIOGRAPHY OF FILMMAKER:
German Alonso was born on the Mexican American Border town of Chula Vista California in the year of 1981. It was in Mexico , as a child, where he was first influenced by Mexican Sculpture, and Murals, and the ghostly deserts of the Baja California , Peninsula .
As a child German never had any conventional toys, instead he was given clay to play, and so he made his own toys. From these early beginnings German developed a passion for sculpting. As an only child, he only had his dog, and the portal of imagination to transport him to worlds beyond the tongues of man. It was his imagination, that fuelled his arts, and enabled him to meet legendary cosmic warriors, princesses, a few
demons, and one evil trans dimensional sorcerer; " The Manifesto" .
When he moved from Baja California , Mexico to El Monte , CA USA , he began to venture into creating comics, and oral stories, he would then share with his fellow children. His love of story telling led him to venture into animation, where he animated his clay sculptures. Ultimately it would be filmmaking that would allow German to house his artistic passions. Before German turned 20 he had Produced, and Directed over 20 animations, and shorts. It was in the year 2002 that he was admitted into the USC film school where he directed Mexman the Mechanized Man in 2003 .
Short #3: “Enter the Cage” - Documentary
Enter the cage is a cinema-verite-style documentary with the feel of a feature film. Enter the Cage takes the viewers into the homes and training facilities of four very different fighters, John Cole, Steve White, Louie Vaith, and Joe Camacho, as they prepare to compete in what would become one of the bloodiest nights in KOTC cage fighting history. As we step into the lives of these professional fighters we get to know them and gain an understanding of what the life of a fighter is really like.
As the countdown to the big fight commences, we side step into the world of illegal underground fighting and female fighting featuring interviews with female fighters and legendary fighters from the Gracie and Machado family. Enter the Cage contains real, uncensored footage of illegal underground fighting and female fighting including a fight and interview with Debi Purcell -arguably the best female fighter in the world.
When the day arrives for our four fighters to battle in a cage, Enter the Cage takes viewers behind the scenes and cage-side for some of the bloodiest and most intense fight footage ever captured. No scream goes unheard as the men we have come to know put their lives on the line right in front of the camera and nothing can prepare viewers for the shocking outcome that night, December 7th, 2002 . Featuring Brilliant Cinematography and flashy, engaging video editing and musical score, Enter the Cage is a must-have for all fight fan enthusiasts around the world.

Some 48 Hour Film events are projects. Some are even challenges. Welcome to a new kind of event - The San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience. More than a project.
More than a challenge.
Grab a camera, put a team together, and make a film in 48 hours.
Read the full RULES here: http://www.sa48hr.com
Unlike most other 48 Hour Film events, the SA48HR Film Experience is a true test of a team's filmmakers. Limited to only ten (10) participating teams, each receives a genre, character, line of dialogue, and most importantly, a LOCATION. That's right, no props, but a location that must be used in the team's film. And what a location we have.
This year's SA48HR Film Experience will feature the historic Friedrich Building , home for more than 50 years to the Friedrich Refrigeration Company, at 1617 East Commerce St , in Downtown San Antonio. Abandoned, and left for the wrecking ball, this classic structure of more than 400,000 sq ft was rescued in 1999 by developer Eugene Simor and his partners. Slated for massive renovation beginning in January of 2006, the SA48HR Film Experience promises to document in a unique way, ten distinct portions of the building prior to reconstruction.

Full Q&A Interview at http://www.9livesmovie.com/
NINE LIVES is a moving exploration of the individual experiences of nine women as told through nine single unbroken takes. As characters from one story reappear in supporting roles in others, Rodrigo Garcia interweaves a grand tapestry of universal resonance that hinges on performances from an incredible ensemble. By depicting nine different characters at emotional crossroads, NINE LIVES examines how we so often find ourselves captive in relationships, both past and present. You can find out more about NINE LIVES at http://www.9livesmovie.com It is currently playing in many major metropolitan areas and might be playing soon at a theater near you.
Rodrigo Garcia is the acclaimed writer/director of Things You Can Tell Just By Looking at Her, which premiered at Sundance in 2000 and went on to win the Un Certain Regard division at the Cannes Film Festival that spring. He also wrote and directed Ten Tiny Love Stories and was one of three writer/directors of the Showtime Independent Feature Fathers and Sons. For HBO, Garcia has directed the pilots for "Carnivale" and the upcoming series, "Big Love", as well as episodes of "The Sopranos" and "Six Feet Under".
Q: What inspired you to write this story about these nine very different women?
RG : Well, it's hard to say where ideas come from. I mean, I'm certainly always interested in characters who are trapped, who are in a rut, who can't get out of their situation, who can't grow, who can't move away from a person when they're trapped in a relationship . . . which always puts me in a situation of writing the shorter piece rather than the long piece because that sense of being a prisoner, and certainly your own prisoner, is often a hard thing to sustain over the two hours of a movie. So I always find that I've become a miniaturist, I just want to see a moment in her life that reflects the total and how the person is trapped in the total. So it's something that's always interested me and I hope one day, in a professionally suicidal move, I'm going to do a movie called Moments that will be made up of 90 or a 100 moments! Which, hopefully, at a distance will tell what I want to tell. But for the time being, I had this idea of spending ten, 12, 14 minutes in the life of a woman. I wanted to, early on, do it in one, continuous take. Because I thought, if I start cutting, then I'm going to have all these little shorts. And if I don't cut, then I'm actually spending those minutes in real time. So it's a little bit more of a slice of life or a sliver of their lives. So, I thought okay, ten to 12 minutes each, nine of them. NINE LIVES, it had a ring to it!

Global Action Project, Inc. (G.A.P.), a youth-based, social justice media organization based in New York City , seeks a part-time Media Educator for its Eye Level program. G.A.P.’s mission is to provide youth with the knowledge, tools and relationships they need to create powerful, thought-provoking media on local and international issues that concern them and to use their media as a catalyst for dialogue and positive social change. G.A.P.’s programs combine a dynamic mix of video production, media literacy, activism and popular education.

This program, which offers five talented young artists the chance for independent work and preparation for pursuing media-arts opportunities beyond G.A.P., is funded by the Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust. During the first year, youth created individual video projects. This year, the goal is to connect fellows’ learning with formal creative and pre-professional opportunities such as internships, portfolio development (e.g., screenings, creating a DVD reel of their work), and college- and career-awareness (e.g., organizing college trips, resume building, visits from media professionals such as cinematographers, editors, filmmakers, producers).

Must have excellent facilitation skills and a commitment to youth leadership and development. Media Educators must participate in weekly staff/pedagogy meetings and other G.A.P. staff development opportunities throughout the year.
