NALIP Board of Directors Nomination Time is HERE! Deadline: November 21, 2005

Dear NALIP Member:

It is time once again to elect a new slate of Board of Directors for NALIP National. As vested members of NALIP, this is your opportunity to make a difference in how your organization is run in the next three years.  We need your energy, your enthusiasm and your ideas to help NALIP better serve the needs of the Latino media-making community.

Our goal is to present a slate of nominees for the December 2005 election.  We seek recommendations of candidates who will have a marked impact on NALIP’s ability to increase our visibility on a national level, increase our fundraising capacity either directly or through contacts, help maintain our National initiatives and inform the creation of new ones that benefit our membership, and who can become active participants in the programs, committees, and events that NALIP presents, particularly our Signature Programs.

You are invited to nominate candidates for a 3-year term to the NALIP Board of Directors. You may nominate yourself.  You may nominate another.  Just follow the guidelines below.  A few things to consider before you proceed. First know that:

Prospective candidates shall be at least eighteen years of age, be a vested NALIP member paid in full, and have residency or place of employment in the United States .

In the same way that our organization supports media makers from around the country, so too can candidates for the Board of Directors be from throughout the continental United States .

At all times the majority of the Board of Directors shall be Latino, or of a Latino origin.

At least one third of the Directors shall be producers and/or representatives of producing organizations

Each Director shall serve for a term of three (3) years to a maximum of two (2) terms.

4 Board Members come up for re-election each year, and all 4 current Board members with expiring terms will run again.  However, we can increase the Board to 15 and are considering an expansion for 2006.

Each Board Member is responsible for participating actively in the management of the Corporation. This includes:

A. The hiring, support and evaluation of the Executive Director on an annual basis;

B. Approving policies, guidelines and long-range plans;

C. Enhancing the organization’s public image;

D. Ensuring the organization’s financial stability and solvency by approving an annual budget and reviewing financial statements on a regular basis;

E. Helping to raise money for the organization;

F. Evaluating the performance of the Board; and

G. Participation in a leadership capacity in at least one active committee per year, such as advocacy, fundraising, conference, membership and/or program development, among others.

Our full By-Laws and their related amendments, including descriptions of the Board of Directors, its Officers, and their responsibilities, can be found online at: http://www.nalip.org/About/structureGovernance.byLaws.htm

Here is what you need to do to present your nomination for consideration.

Please email or fax to us by Monday, November 21st each of the following for yourself, or your nominee:

1. A Short Bio,

2. A Letter of Intent (LOI) that describes why you, or the person you are nominating, wish to be on NALIP’s Board and what resources and capacities you will bring to NALIP’s executive collective, and

3. Full contact information including phone and e-mail.

Please e-mail your nominations to Edwin Pagán, NALIP Nominating Committee at epagan@pagan-images.com , Or Fax 310.395.8811.

Incomplete nomination packages/materials will not be considered .

Questions? Please feel free to call Kathryn F. Galán, NALIP Executive Director at 310.457.4445.

We look forward to your Nominations!

Edwin Pagán, Moctesuma Esparza

Top 500 Diversity Owned Businesses in the United States Announced

SOUTHPORT , CT , October 26, 2005 /DiversityBusiness.com / DiversityBusiness.com, the nations' leading multicultural business internet site, today announced the Div500, the 6th annual listing of the nations' top 500 diversity-owned businesses. Ranging in revenue size from $20 million to over $2 billion, the companies listed on the Div500 represent the nations' top multicultural earners and challenge the long-held notion that diversity-owned businesses are small or insignificant.

At the top of 2005's Div500 are Software House International, Inc., headquartered in Somerset, NJ, with $2.5 billion in 2004 revenues, Burt Automotive, based in Centennial, CO, with 1.8 billion in 2004 revenues, World Wide Technology, Inc., headquartered in St. Louis, with $1.4 billion in 2004 revenues and Omega World Travel, based in Fairfax, VA, with $1.2 billion in 2004 revenues. These four businesses are Asian Pacific American-, Hispanic-, African American-, and Woman-owned respectively. The top companies will be honored at a special awards ceremony at DiversityBusiness.com's 6th Annual Multicultural Business Conference, taking place March 29 - March 31, 2006 at the MGM Mirage in Las Vegas , Nevada .

"Diversity-owned businesses contribute over $1.4 trillion in sales to the U.S. economy," said Kenton Clarke, CEO of Computer Consulting Associates International, the company that built DiversityBusiness.com. " It is no longer "just the right thing" to do business with diversity suppliers. Because of recent economic and demographic trends and changes, major corporations are realizing that having a diverse supplier base positively impacts their business revenue from this sector of buyers".

ClickFlicks.net, the premiere online destination for the exhibition and distribution of independent film and television content, to go live January 15 th 2006

New York , NY October 26 th, 2005 . Offering the best in independent film and television content, ClickFlicks.net has announced today that it will go live on January 15 th, 2006 with over 100 independently produced film and television projects. Unlike competitors such as iFilm and Atom Films, ClickFlicks.net is dedicated to the true independents, those who have mastered the art of “doing whatever it takes” to get their projects made. Powered by a proprietary database application environment, ClickFlicks.net is able to serve content quickly and reliably to millions of visitors simultaneously.

In an age when investment money is nearly impossible to come by, the independent often gets the short end of the stick and is forced to beg, borrow and steal for production funds. Even if the film is successfully funded and completed, the independent immediately faces an uphill battle towards securing exhibition and distribution deals.

Festival submission seems to be a logical route for completed films, but with most festivals giving preference to “pseudo-independent” Hollywood films, little room is left for the true independents. No entries in major festivals means no exposure to major distributors.

Local screenings are a more feasible route, although exposure is limited and rarely leads to a distribution deal.

Submitting a film directly to a distributor can be the same as throwing it into a black hole. If the independent is lucky enough to have his or her film viewed, chances are slim to none that it will be picked up for distribution. In the rare case that a deal is offered, distributors have already tasted the desperation and take full advantage – offering the independent a tiny percentage of what is deserved.

ClickFlicks.net addresses the plight of the independent by providing an effective exhibition and distribution environment that features only independently produced content. Complete with online festivals, 24/7 screenings, trailers and a target audience of millions per month, ClickFlicks.net truly has everything the independent needs to find success in the world of entertainment.

John Leguizamo To Receive “Mocte de Oro” Award
Night To Include Tribute To Leguizamo And Screening Of His New Film

The 9th International Latino Film Festival will feature “A Tribute to John Leguizamo” at the Castro Theatre on November 5. The evening will start at 6, p.m. with a press conference with Leguizamo followed by a screening of Sueño.

Sueño , starring Leguizamo as a talented musician from Mexico pursuing his dream of becoming a singer while caught in a romantic triangle with two women. The evening will continue with the presentation of the “Mocte de Oro” award to Leguizamo. The “Mocte de Oro” award is an annual lifetime achievement award presented each year to a Latino who has made a significant contribution to the world of film. This year, the award will be given by visionary producer Moctensuma Esparza who was the first recipient of the “Mocte de Oro” award in 2003.

Leguizamo is thought of as one of the breakthrough performers for the Latino community into mainstream Hollywood . Leguizamo’s strength lies in his ability to not take his ethnic background too seriously, while still expressing pride in his Latin heritage. As a multi-faceted performer, Leguizamo has established his career with his work in film, theatre, stand-up, television and literature.

In 2001, Leguizamo starred in Moulin Rouge with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, portraying artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose paintings defined the era. Among his most powerful characterizations are his 'Tybalt' opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in Baz Luhrmann' s version of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; and the beautiful drag queen 'Chi Chi Rodriguez’, in Beehan Kidron' s Too Wong Foo: Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar, opposite Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes.
