NALIPsters,

Don't miss LPA Mentor/Writer-Director's NINE LIVES from our friends at Magnolia Pictures:

Nine Lives
Every life has a story. Every story has a life of its own.

Winner Golden Leopard Locarno Int’l Film Festival 2005
Centerpiece Premiere Los Angeles Film Festival 2005
Official Selection Sundance Film Festival 2005

Magnolia Pictures is proud to release Mockingbird Pictures’ NINE LIVES written and directed by Latino filmmaker Rodrigo Garcia. This is a moving exploration of the individual experiences of nine women as told through nine single unbroken takes. As characters from one story reappear in supporting roles in others, Rodrigo Garcia interweaves a grand tapestry of universal resonance that hinges on performances from an incredible ensemble. By depicting nine different characters at emotional crossroads, NINE LIVES examines how we so often find ourselves captive in relationships, both past and present.

Starring Latino actors: Elpidia Carrillo and Miguel Sandoval along with Glenn Close, Kathy Baker, Amy Brenneman, Aidan Quinn, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Dakota Fanning, Holly Hunter, Molly Parker, Stephen Dillane, Mary Kay Place , Sydney Tamiia Poitier, William Fichtner, Ian McShane, Robin Wright Penn, Joe Mantegna, Amanda Seyfried, Jason Isaacs and Sissy Spacek.

“A lovely film. I greatly admired ‘Nine Lives’.”

Cine Sin Fin: 11th Annual East L.A. Film Festival

Los Angeles – Cine Sin Fin Film Festival acts both as a venue and networking experience for aspiring filmmakers, actors, screenwriters and producers. "Our mission is to provide a venue for aspiring Chicana/o filmmakers to screen their films and videos", said Jaime Segal-Gutierrez, President of A La Brava Productions, at a press conference earlier this week.

The festival will showcase feature films such as Maid In America, A Language Of Passion, Champion ( Danny Trejo), Nuestra Familia (Our Family), Fatman and Mr. Taco, Ciudad Neza: De Dia Y Noche, El Padrino, and shorts in the experimental, narrative, comedy and documentary categories.

The film festival will premiere Saturday November 12, 2005 at 8pm with the screening of Danny Trejo's film Champion, followed by the Firme Awards to celebrate the Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, and the John Alonzo Award for Cinematography and the Anthony Quinn Award for Acting.

Cine Sin Fin will also host a panel discussion on Nov. 12. The panel includes established filmmakers, actors, writers, directors, producers and activists to moderate a forum on the current issues facing the community, Hollywood and the growing trends of Hollywood towards the Chicana/o community.

In addition, special workshops are hosted throughout the week of November 6-13, 2005 (call (323) 265-2344 for schedule). The workshops include: Acting for the Camera, Directing, Screenwriting 1: What You Need to Know, Screenwriting 2: Creating the Blockbuster, Production Management, and Technical Production. All workshops are coordinated by industry professionals and have been well attended.

"Our audience has consistently catered to the local communities of families, artists, producers, directors, and youth living in the City", said Eduardo Hinojosa-Espinoza, Vice President of A La Brava Productions.

Cine Sin Fin will be held at the following locations: A La Brava Headquarters in Boyle Heights; Casa del Mexicano, in the heart of Boyle Heights; the Echo Park Film Center, a community collaborative for film production and promotion; Casa de Sousa Coffee House, restaurant and performance space at the historic Olvera Street; and the L.A. Youth Opportunity Program, a community youth organization located in San
Fernando.

"We have empowered those individuals and organizations whose films personify and humanize the Chicana/o experience to those who would otherwise not be familiar with it," said Ernesto Espinoza, Director of Cine Sin Fin, at a film presentation earlier this year.

Cine Sin Fin makes a special effort to inform the community of all events with ticket giveaways to the local High Schools, Community Colleges, Community Groups, Senior Centers, Boy's and Girls Clubs.

Yet conversely, no network has suffered through a worse sitcom drought. ABC hasn't had a top 10 sitcom since Home Improvement made the list in 1998, and it hasn't won the sitcom Emmy since The Wonder Years in 1987.
