In addition, noted New York filmmaker Ela Troyano has agreed to present her film. “La Lupe, Queen of Latin Soul,” as a case study for the workshop.

Richard Saiz oversees Open Call at ITVS, the organization’s principal funding initiative and reads and evaluates over 600 proposals per year. Saiz has over 30 years experience as a broadcast journalist, producer, director and writer. His documentaries have won numerous awards including the duPont-Columbia Sliver Baton and “Best TV Documentary” from the San Francisco International Film Festival. The workshop will focus on the basic principles and elements of a well-written proposal, with special emphasis on the preparation of a treatment and the use of character in the telling a of a television story.
The presentation will include clips from films that have successfully made their way through the ITVS pipeline.
In addition, noted New York filmmaker Ela Troyano has agreed to present her film. “La Lupe, Queen of Latin Soul,” as a case study for the workshop. Troyano will discuss the evolution of her film: concept, treatment, fundraising, production and distribution.
This workshop is hosted by La Plaza at WGBH.

12TH ANNUAL CINESOL FILM FESTIVAL
Sept. 23 – Oct. 8, 2005
BROWNSVILLE , TX – The CineSol Film Festival opens Sept. 23in Brownsville and concludes Oct. 8 in McAllen.
The two-week festival kicks off in Brownsville with a public reception from 7–8 p.m. at Four Points Sheraton, 3777 N. Expwy 77. Free admission.
The opening weekend includes independent film screenings with special guests, filmmaker’s workshops and forums, live entertainment and a one-night art exhibition. Opening weekend workshops and screenings take place at Cinemark Movies 10 at 3471 Old Hwy 77 (across from the Red Roof Inn), (956) 544-7200. This year, Cinemark, an annual sponsor of Cinesol, increased their support by providing one screen for the exclusive use of the festival for their opening weekend.
Screenings include the work of local filmmakers as well as work submitted by filmmakers from California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York. This year, for the first time, one entire day is devoted to local filmmakers.
A catered after-party and one-night art show takes place Sat. night at the Ringgold Civic Pavilion at Dean Porter Park from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., $25 at the door or included with the $50 festival pass.
Festival passes for opening weekend are on sale at the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau and, during opening weekend only, at the Cinemark Movies 10 in Brownsville. The $30 festival pass gives access to all opening weekend screenings and workshops. The $50 festival pass gives access to all opening weekend screenings and workshops, plus the after-party on Sat. at the Ringgold Civic Pavilion. Admission to each feature film screening is $10, sold at the door only. Admission to workshops and afternoon screenings is $10 each day, sold at the door only. (Combined admission to screenings/workshops is $50.)
After the opening weekend, special outreach screenings are scheduled at schools and theaters across the Rio Grande Valley and in Matamoros, Mexico.

"Oscar’s Docs" to Present Panel Discussion with WWII Combat Cameramen
Beverly Hills, CA — For the next installment of its series "Oscar’s Docs: The First Twenty Years of Academy Award®-Winning Documentaries,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host a panel discussion featuring World War II combat cameramen on Monday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m., in the Linwood Dunn Theater. The 12-week series showcases the first 40 short and feature-length documentaries honored by the Academy since the inception of the category in 1941.
Documentarian and scholar Dr. Betsy McLane will moderate the discussion, focusing on the challenges facing combat cameramen during WWII and the personal sacrifices made to provide footage of the war for people back home. McLane is the co-author of the upcoming “History of Documentary Film,” with Professor Jack C. Ellis, and the former Director of the International Documentary Association.
WWII combat cameramen William T. Cartwright (U.S. Marine Corps), Hal Geer (U.S. Army), Ruben Wiener (U.S. Army) and Ben Wolfe (U.S. Army) will participate in the panel.
Also participating in the discussion will be: Dr. Cora Goldstein, Assistant Professor of Political Science at California State University, Long Beach, and a specialist in the cultural policies of the American military government in post-war Germany; Wayne Weiss, Armed Forces film producer-director for the Department of Defense between 1983 and 1994; and Dr. Charles Wolfe, Professor of Film Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a film historian focused on the history of commercial, independent and documentary filmmaking in the United States.
Continuing the WWII focus, “Hitler Lives?” (1945), “The True Glory” (1945) and “Seeds of Destiny” (1946) will be screened at the October 3 installment of “Oscar’s Docs.”
Passes for "Oscar’s Docs: The First Twenty Years of Academy Award-Winning Documentaries" are available at a cost of $30 for the general public and $25 for Academy members and students with valid I.D. Tickets for individual evenings of the series are available for $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with valid I.D. Fifty Hispanic Business Owners are One Step Closer to Winning $100,000 Grand Prize
Dearborn, Mich., September 22, 2005 – Danny Rodriquez, owner of BellaVic Entertainment and Sherman Oaks, CA, resident has been selected as one of the Top 50 finalists for El Visionario (“The Visionary”), the online Spanish language contest for small business owners.
