Marco Santiago of Volarefilms LLC Directs Broken Poets Debut Music Video

Volarefilms LLC premiers Tempe, Arizona based Broken Poets’ debut music video online for Tim McDonald’s title track “Build Upon the Present Regardless”, from their forth coming album.

Tempe, AZ, (PRWEB) September 13, 2005 – Directed by Marco Santiago Jr., award wining filmmaker from Volarefilms LLC and co-produced with VuWest, the music video marks Marco Santiago’s music video directorial debut and marks Tim McDonald’s Broken Poets debut music video.

“I was very excited when Tim approached me to do his first music video earlier this year – this was a first for both of us”, says Marco. “Tim’s music is very soulful – very good stuff, and I think he’ll go a long way. I was happy to take on the project. My hopes are that it will help expose his music to a wider audience.” he continues.

Founded by Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, Tim McDonald, Broken Poets performed their debut show at The Bitter End in New York City January 2002. In 2004 Broken Poets full-length CD "Reincarnation" was signed for release and distributed nationally through Haden's Ferry records, Tempe, AZ. As a direct credit to his songwriting, McDonald has worked closely with prominent musicians such as Bassist, Keith Lentin (Bob Dylan, Keith Richards), and drummer, Jonathan Mover (Fuel, Alice Cooper). McDonald has also completed production recording projects with veteran FOH Engineer Robert Scovill (Tom Petty, Rush, Matchbox 20) and Producer Clarke Rigsby (Paul McCartney, Tower of Power, Four Tops). Tim McDonald has opened solo, and with Broken Poets, for The Pretenders, The B52’s, Seven Mary Three, James McMurtry and Ian Moore.

Broken Poets new lineup featured in this video consists of Tim McDonald, Vocals/Guitar, Marcus Howard on drums, Svetlana Antropova on Piano and Josh Weldon on Bass.

“I really enjoyed working with Marco.” says Tim. “For me it was a lot like having a great music producer. He was able to refine and translate my ideas onto tape, or in this case film. Lyrics are also very important to me, and Marco was able to find images that seemed to express exactly the sentiment I had in mind. This video expresses my music perfectly.”

The music video for “Built Upon the Present Regardless” was filmed over a two-day period at the Haden Ferry Studio in Mesa, Arizona, the historic Hotel Congress in Tucson, Arizona and in Phoenix, Arizona. Independent Filmmaker *Mabel Valdiviezo Highlights Community in Exile At Workshop
SAN FRANCISCO, August 29, 2005

Local writer/director and *NALIP—San Francisco Chair, Mabel Valdiviezo took her narrative script, “Soledad Is Gone Forever,” to the 2005 Squaw Valley Screenwriting Workshop. Valdiviezo’s script generated advance buzz among industry experts before her arrival and garnered even more interest throughout the workshop. One of the most prestigious incubators for emerging screenwriters in the country, only 24 participants are selected to attend each year. Valdiviezo and the other workshop attendees found themselves being mentored by industry experts seeking to nurture the most promising new voices in filmmaking.

“It was the most validating experience I have had so far as a writer and filmmaker,” said the Peruvian born filmmaker. Valdiviezo worked side-by-side with such mentors as the workshop’s program director, Diana Fuller, Squaw Co-Founder, Tom Rickman (Coal Miner’s Daughter), Gene Corr (Waldo Salt), Pamela Gray (Walk On The Moon), Michael Lehmann (Heathers), Tom Schesinger (Nowhere In Africa), Camille Thomasson (Ave Maria), Greg Beal, Sarah Ryan Beck, Gail Silva, Owen Prell, and Peggy Rajski.

Valdiviezo’s script is an intimate psychological portrait of a Chilean exile living in San Francisco who returns to her native country to reclaim her father’s remains and reconcile with the country’s violent past. Like many survivors of the Pinochet era, Soledad Gonzalez is haunted in visions and nightmares by the 8-year-old Soledad and her father’s disappearance.

“Chilean immigrants worldwide who survived the Pinochet reign of terror more than two decades ago have given their voices to Soledad Gonzalez,” said Valdiviezo. “Countless children witnessed the violent transgressions of human rights during this military regime, I wanted to know what happened to their minds and hearts. During interviews with many immigrants living in the United States, I found them deeply affected by their past and unable to talk about it,” said Valdiviezo.

“Soledad Is Gone Forever” explores the long-term consequence of war and it’s effects across many generations. The film gives voice to a global community of forgotten exiles, offers the universal hope of healing and delivers a resolve to prevent further violations of an individual’s human rights.

“Soledad Is Gone Forever” is a production of Haiku Films. The project is currently seeking assistance from sponsors and donors.

PBS (KLRN) PREMIERES “LA TRAGEDIA DE MACARIO”

PBS (KLRN) will premiere LA TRAGEDIA DE MACARIO, a film by Pablo Veliz, on October 9 at 2:00 PM and October 15 at 10:00 PM as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. This will be a regional premiere. This film inspired by the true events of immigrants from Mexico exhausting every effort to find a better life in the United States and paying the ultimate price as they attempt to cross the borders into a new world. Written, directed, and edited by Pablo Véliz. Starring in this film are Rogelio Ramos, Milicent Figueroa, Tina Rodriguez, Victor Agustin, Juanita Castro, and Allan Horwath. Cinematography by Brian Gonzalez. Original Music by Carlos Sanchez. Produced by Pablo Véliz and Jeff Horny.

The film, which deals with immigrant families and their struggle, premiered to an audience of 800 at the McAllister Auditorium located on the San Antonio College campus on April 2, 2005. Currently the film is has been submitted to several film Festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival, and has won the Producers Award For Best Feature Film at the Cine Cuauhtemoc Pan American Film Festival.

SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM

Macario, a local peasant in Sabinas Hidalgo, Mexico, struggles for a dignified life for he and his wife Regina. He often contemplates crossing the border to the United States, where he could find work and a better life. Along with his best friend, Felipe, he takes the brave step into an unknown world. The two along with 17 other immigrants entrust a Coyote (human trafficker) with their lives and money to cross them over to the so-called “American Dream” inside a train wagon. The Coyote neglects the lives of the immigrants trapped inside the train wagon where Macario and the rest struggle to stay alive. Before his agonizing death by asphyxiation, dehydration and heat exposure, Macario receives heavenly comfort and a message of hope from La Virgen Maria (Virgin Mary).

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

At 22, Pablo Véliz premiered his first feature film at the McAllister Auditorium in San Antonio. The film was inspired by the worst immigrant tragedy in American history. On the night of May 14, 2003, on a highway outside of Victoria, Texas, 19 people died of asphyxiation, dehydration and heat exposure inside of a locked, double-insulated trailer truck. Through interviews and personal research, Véliz transforms this tragedy into a film and tells the story of the struggle of the Mexican immigrant. He currently attends the University of Texas at San Antonio where he studies communication. Currently, Véliz is working on writing for his next film, which deals with a similar topic of human struggle and family values in the United States.
