Sí TV seals deals with XM Satellite Radio, Universal Motown, and other notable brands
Los Angeles (September 6, 2005) –XM Satellite Radio, Universal Motown, and other major brands have struck promotional deals with Sí TV, the first English-language Latino cable network, to reach the coveted “Generation Sí,” the English-dominant Latino demographic who make up nearly 60% of Hispanic spending.
“English dominant Latinos drive 59% of all Latino spending, which according to Hispanic Business Magazine is roughly $800 billion a year,” says Valdez , “Sí TV reaches over 10 million of their homes every day, offering our promotional partners a tremendous opportunity. We are excited to be in business with all of them.”
Dotty Ewing , Sí TV’s senior vice president of marketing who brokered the deals added, “The wide range of these partnerships underlines the universal appeal of what we have labeled ‘Generation Sí.’ These alliances recognize that Latino culture is dominating the mainstream. Our partners understand that shift and are eager to reach this important growing segment.”
Sí TV’s campaigns with XM Satellite Radio, Universal Motown, The New York Latino Film Festival, Fuego Magazine, and Vidagirl.com directly reflect Generation Sí’s interests and consumption patterns as outlined in a recent study by FGI and the Roslow Research Group. As such, the partnerships will allow for targeted cross-promotional opportunities utilizing each other’s valuable distribution platforms.
The FGI study , which surveyed over 1000 people including 705 Latinos (male and female 18-34) and 303 non-Latinos (male and female 18-34), established Generation Sí as an overwhelmingly enthusiastic and savvy consumer segment.
Among the key findings it was reported that that 33% of Generation Sí vs. 19% of Anglo adults are classified as early adopters, indicating that Latinos are more likely to have handheld devices such as iPod’s. The study also found that Generation Sí is 230% more likely to cite TV or radio advertising as “very influential” compared to Anglo adults.
With this in mind, XM Satellite Radio, the leading satellite radio service with over 4.4 million subscribers, has reached out to Sí TV to promote its programming. XM will air commercial spots on Sí TV to build awareness for its 150-channel lineup of sports, news, talk and commercial-free music. XM will also broadcast Sí TV comedy vignettes from “Latino Laugh Festival: The Show” on the XM comedy channel. In addition, Sí TV and XM will cross-promote programming on their respective websites.
The study found that Generation Sí is 69% more likely than non-Latinos to keep up with the latest trends in movies and music. As a result, Sí TV has entered into a deal with Fuego Magazine, a national Harris Publication quarterly magazine devoted to the latest in the male Latino lifestyle. To promote the magazine’s launch Sí TV will feature Fuego on Styleyes, Sí TV’s lifestyle and fashion program. In return, Fuego will promote Sí TV awareness in their publication.
Young urban Latinos also indexed high for internet usage, therefore Sí TV has partnered with Vidagirl.com, an English-language portal that has over 300,000 page views per month with over 30,000 unique hits per month reaching young 15-20 Latinas. Vidagirl.com is an exciting online magazine that celebrates Latin life, culture and style. Vidagirl.com will promote Sí TV online, while Sí TV will provide Vidagirl.com with exciting and informative content for this growing demo.
Among other product categories surveyed, the FGI study also found that Generation Sí is 17% more likely to have attended a concert and 50% more likely than Anglos to have gone dancing in the past year. As such, Sí TV recently finalized an agreement with Universal Motown, whose artist roster includes Latino hip-hop and rap singers as Frankie J., Baby Bash, and Natalie. The artists, who sing predominantly in English, are U.S.-born Hispanic Americans and reflect Sí TV’s viewer profile. As Universal launched its Latium Tour, Sí TV stepped in to provide UMG/Latium with on-air support, including unique customized interstitials highlighting the tour, upcoming dates, and exclusive behind the screens footage. Latium will promote the Sí TV brand on venue video screens during the tour and via web links between SiTV.com and Natalie.com and Babybash.com.
Also in conjunction with study results, which found that Generation Sí is twice as likely as non-Latino 18-34 year-olds to attend movies opening weekend, Sí TV has partnered with The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) , taking place July 26-31, 2005 in New York City . As part of the partnership NYILFF will grant Sí TV full access to filmmakers and actors at the festival, which will be incorporated into a special dedicated episode of “Not so Foreign Filmmakers Showcase” (NSFFS), Sí TV’s own indi-film program. In addition, the winning short from the festival’s Best Short Award will air exclusively on “NSFFS.” NYILFF will offer Sí TV valuable exposure by showcasing the network’s programming before every film and providing Sí TV with ample event signage.
