This workshop provides comprehensive discussion and practical hands-on application of the High Definition camera. Topics of discussion include the mechanics of a high definition video camera vs. a film camera (the strengths and limitations of both) and how those differences are applied on the set; lighting for HD and general lighting techniques (3 hard lights vs. soft/exposure); technique and artistic choices for HD (or things I like to do such as camera settings for music video vs. drama); camera movement and blocking (coverage choices/ composition choices/hand held/ dolly/fluid head and gear head); and the role of the cinematographer on the set - how he influences the look and feel of the film, his role with a director and what a career in this field entails.
Instructor Jon Darbonne is a director of photography in Los Angeles who specializes in high definition cinematography. He has been shooting for over 10 years, during which he has lensed over 15 feature films, and numerous commercials, music videos and television shows. He has worked in 35mm, 16mm, HD, SD, and DV. Channel Targeting Young Latinos to Be Part of Verizon’s Diverse Programming
NEW YORK – Verizon today announced a programming-distribution agreement with Sí TV, the only English-language Latino network in the United States . Under the agreement, Verizon will carry the channel on Verizon FiOS TV when it launches later this year.
Sí TV will complement other major cable and network channels, including those targeting Hispanic viewers that will be available to Verizon customers. “We are pleased to offer Sí TV, which features fresh programming aimed at young Latinos,” said Terry Denson, vice president of programming and marketing for Verizon FiOS TV. “Sí TV will be instrumental in advancing our commitment to provide increased content choice and diversity to FiOS TV customers.”
Jeff Valdez, co-founder and chairman of Sí TV, said, “We are excited to add Verizon to our growing list of carriers. Both operators and advertisers realize the value of our target demographic: the new ‘Latino Generation Sí,’ which are young, English-dominant urban Latinos that make up 60 percent of all U.S. Hispanic spending.”
Verizon FiOS TV will offer customers a competitive alternative to cable or satellite. FiOS TV will deliver hundreds of digital video channels, high-definition programming, video-on-demand content, music channels, an interactive programming guide and other customer-friendly features via the company's fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband network. Verizon is already constructing FTTP networks in parts of 14 states, half the states where it offers landline communications services.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

First English-Language Latino Cable Network Scores High Among Key Demographics in Primetime
Los Angeles, CA (May 17, 2005) – Sí TV executives released ratings information at their upfront presentation today in New York City reporting that the network scored an impressive 2.1 rating with Hispanics 18-24 and a 1.7 rating among Hispanics 18-34 during primetime.

Sony Pictures Classics will once again be the North American home for Pedro Almodovar with his latest project, "Volver" (Return) marking his sixth feature that will be released on this side of the Atlantic by the New York-based distributor. The comedy, starring Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura ("Women on the Verge"), will begin shooting in July in Madrid . "Volver" is a production of Pedro Almodovar and brother Agustin's production company, El Deseo. Sony Classics plans a June, 2006 release following a nationwide theatrical retrospective of eight of Almodovar's films.
Set in Madrid 's working class neighborhoods, "Volver" is described by SPC as the story of "three generations of women who survive wind, fire and even death, thanks to audacity, goodness and a limitless vitality." The film will be a "meeting of 'Mildred Pierce' (Michael Curtiz) and 'Arsenic
and Old Lace' (Frank Capra), combined with the surrealistic naturalism of Amodovar's fourth film, '¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!!' (What Have I Done to Deserve This?)."
