The Desert Flower is a short silent film about a Mexican family living in the United States in 1849, just after the end of the U.S.-Mexico War. Part telenovela, part PERILS OF PAULINE, the film tells the story of a Mexican family living in TX in the late 1800's. This melodramatic story also explores historical and political themes and is set to music written by a Mexican-born silent film era musician, featuring a singing Charro.

¡Bandido Vive! is a documentary that looks at the life and death of Oscar “Bandido” Gomez, a 22-year-old Chicano activist and radio DJ at UC-Davis whose murder in 1994 remains unsolved. Through his passion of radio, Bandido played a unique variety of music, promote Chicano culture and transmitted social and political messages of self-determination to a wide spectrum of listeners.
By combining re-enactments, interviews and audio excerpts from La Onda Chicana (his radio show), ¡Bandido Vive! will take a closer look at this young and vital voice we lost. The cause of Bandido's death may be unresolved but it is my intention to bring Bandido's voice to life again and give him a final say.
Urquijo's films seek accurate representations of the day-to-day challenges and struggles that the California Chicano and Latino communities face, and resonate with a political and social consciousness-an Urquijo trademark. His films have been well received in the US and internationally, including in Cuba , Colombia and Mexico .
Urquijo was recently honored at the Arizona International Film Festival in Tucson with the 2004 Independent Filmmaker of the Year Award.

"Members of SALSAir, a collaboration between URBAN-15—headed by NALIP Member George Cisneros—SALSA-NET and Wi-Fi S.A., work to align a Belair 200 antenna on the roof of URBAN-15's southside studio. This antenna allows a broadband radius of up to 300 feet and slower bandwidth speeds up to 2,000 feet."
L.A. Lorek (Article)
Express-News Business Writer
From arts organization Urban 15's rooftop on the West Side, an antenna that looks like a mini-beer keg beams high-speed wireless Internet access to the neighborhood. “This is going to open up San Antonio 's under-served communities to the rest of the world," said George Cisneros, NALIP Member and head of the nonprofit Urban 15.
For the past two weeks, Cisneros has been testing the wireless fidelity Internet system, known as Wi-Fi. He is working with Terry Weakly at WiFi-Sa.com and Dean McCall of Salsa.net to get free or low-cost Internet access to some of the city's poorer residents.
They have also talked with city officials about offering free wireless access points throughout San Antonio .
But a bill in the Texas Legislature aims to put restrictions on city-sponsored free Wi-Fi access. House Bill 789, which passed in the House of Representatives earlier this week, is one of 11 bills around the country backed by big telecommunications and cable companies that prohibit cities from providing blanketed free Wi-Fi access.
In the hometown of SBC Communications, free wireless Internet access might be a tough sell. While SBC is not opposed to cities providing Wi-Fi to public places such as city libraries or parks, spokesman Gene Acuña said the company doesn't approve of ubiquitous free wireless access. "When a city seeks to provide such information services like Wi-Fi to nonpublic places in direct competition with the private sector, then we have some real concerns," he said.
San Antonio has a number of locations that offer Wi-Fi Internet connections for a fee, such as Starbucks, Borders, Barnes & Noble and McDonalds. A few locations such as the Weston Centre downtown also offer free Wi-Fi Internet access. But no one offers free Wi-Fi citywide.
Cisneros, along with WiFi-SA.com and Salsa.net, want to change that. They want to place hundreds of small transmitters on top of buildings around San Antonio . Each would provide a "hot spot" allowing people to sign on to the Internet using computers equipped with Wi-Fi network cards.

Cathy Rankin joins Marco Santiago’s high-energy action/comedy film from Volarefilms LLC to play the female lead as Kimberly Libretta. The film is Marco’s surrealistic and twisted take of the Hollywood development process, which he lampoons in “Diablita”.
(PRWEB) April 20, 2005 – Directed and executive produced by award winning filmmaker Marco Santiago ( El Trafico, Once Upon a Time in the Desert, Into the Border), and with an anticipated production start date of May 21, “ Diablita” will be shot as a 35mm short film project.
“Cathy Rankin brings the right combination of wit and sex appeal to the project.” says Marco. A highly accomplished actor and print model, Cathy has made numerous appearances on television, including ABC’s Monday Night Football pre-game promo with Leslie Neilson, a segment on America ’s Most Wanted, numerous infomercials, commercials, and more. She recently completed leading roles in two feature length films, the Selena Incident and Pieces of A Dream. Both projects are in post-production. Cathy is also a regular hosts on shows such as ABC’s Destination TV in Phoenix , and iSPORTSTV, which is broadcast worldwide over the Internet. “I can’t wait to work on Marco’s project.” says Cathy. “Not only because I admire and relate to his scripts, but also because of the high production quality that is evident in his work. Volarefilms is gaining excellent industry exposure, and this project is the perfect vehicle to showcase my acting ability in a character that is not only fun and interesting, but also has depth and complexity.” She continues.
“Diablita”, Spanish for She Devil, is a satiric and surrealistic lampooning of the Hollywood development process. The story centers around a screenwriter that meets with two studio executives, who then proceed to turn the screenwriter’s story into a Hollywood style T&A laden running gun battle between two hot and sexy females in order to conform to a commercial marketing strategy. “The story is filled with black humor and irony.” says Marco. “The interesting thing about the story is that it lampoons itself. It is a Hollywood style production, complete with hyper-kinetic chase sequences, gun battles, hot woman, and fast talking executives. It lampoons itself by being over the top and absurd. The operative word here is hyper-reality.” Marco Continues. Cathy Rankin will join Amy Weber, who plays the title role of Diablita.

Hanley Valentin, NALIPster originally from The Bronx now living in LA, just scored at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. His latest project "Pact" just won Best Editing (Ken Mowe and Todd Hooker) and the lead won Best Actor (Nick Bianchi). Cheers!
With harmonious frame composition, subdued tones, delicate soundtrack, and minimalist special effects, the film style of 2+2=5=1 leads the audience to focus on the emotional and psychological intensity of its plot.
This impossible equation represents the unsolvable conflict of a group of friends caught on a net of love and desire. Set in a suburban context, the characters of the story are all young single latinos who are materially and professionally accomplished, but lack a sense of belonging. Flashbacks into their past reveal that they were once able to find a community on each other, but the delicate thread that kept them connected broke abruptly, succumbing to the pressure of sensual passion and jealousy. 2+2=5=1 explores their reactions when tragedy brings them together and forces them to confront the truth of their feelings.
With unanimous acceptance by the audience, 2+2=5=1 was a highlight at the 2005 Sin Fronteras Film Festival in Albuquerque . After this outstanding debut, the Sin Fronteras Collective foresees continuous success to Miguel Mas and “Mas and More Entertainment.”
