SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
ITVS Responds to INPUT Hotel Boycott

March 18, 2005

Dear Public Media Colleagues,

As you may know, INPUT 2005 has been caught in a labor dispute between the San Francisco Hilton Hotel and the hotel/restaurant Union Local 2. A recent communication to the field from Local 2 lays out the problem, but does not tell the whole story.

ITVS, the host of INPUT 2005, selected the Hilton over a year ago, well before the labor dispute began. Backing out of the agreement between ITVS and the Hilton would result in a minimum forfeiture of $663,000. ITVS continues to explore its legal and logistical options, but for now the loss of these funds-accounting for more than half of the money raised from foundations, international consulates, government sources, and media partners-is not an option for us.

As an organization, we've spent 15 years committed to television that values economic and social justice...

SHORT ENDS PROJECT

The Short Ends Project is a new group that brings a group of writers, filmmakers, and actors together quarterly to create a variety of short movies. Each writer must pick one noun, one adjective, and number of cast members. The writers have 4 weeks to write their 8-10 page scripts before casting at which time they have 8 weeks to rehearse, shoot and edit the film. Then on the last Sunday of the 4th month of each process all the shorts are screened at a local movie theater. It's a great opportunity to learn, create, and be able to see and share your finished film within a short time span.

The Short Ends Project will hold a screening in Austin, TX, on Saturday, March 26th at 7pm at the Alamo Drafthouse (Westlakes Shopping Center). Admission is $10 and can be purchased in advance, online at: www.drafthouse.com/westlakes/. Click on the Short Ends Project link on the right-hand side panel.

Production Company Seeking Investors for Development Funds

Trident Pictures has just recently become a member of NALIP.

Trident Pictures is a newly formed film production company headed by Roberta Pacino (sister of film star Al Pacino) Mark Oliver Richman, several well-known producers and directors, a wonderfully talented technical staff and several very talented writers and actors.

Trident Pictures has acquired three scripts that are proceeding into development in a single investment package. The three films that have been chosen target the 18-20 year old female moviegoers.

One film is an action adventure that will be cast using primarily Latino actors. This first film is our forerunner and will showcase the three films. The concept for the action-adventure is fantastically suitable to our projected demographic and a Latino cast. The second film is a romantic comedy and the third is in the horror genre. None of theses films are formula films, they are each very unique with amazing market potential.

We are seeking development funds to create a package consisting of a limited partner-ship, an L.L.C. a business plan, and tie-up the actors, getting them under contract to do each film. Once this is accomplished we will present the package to the financiers to finalize the funding. The development funds needed to package this three-picture deal is $50,000 per picture, for a total of $150,000.

If you have questions regarding our company, its proposed business plans or other opportunities you may contact:

Mark Richman / Trident Pictures (949) 706-7406 or info@tridentpictures.com

Editor for Several Shorts

I am looking for an editor for my two short films who has AVID or Final Cut on Mac (I have the first film captured on a firewire hard drive, and will capture the second on the hard drive as well.). Probably will need After effects on the second short. I have a sound editor.

The first film is mini-dv, and I am reediting the film to change the story a great deal. The story follows a Vietnamese woman over the course moments in her life during a real bad year. It's called Sweetest Moment. Editing will include adding some new footage as I work out the shifts in the story. After all is said and done, I expect the film to be less than 15 minutes long.

The second film is mini-dv using a p+s technik adapter so that we could use 35 mm lenses on the project. It is a gay themed short film about a sleepwalker who must learn to trust his partner of three years with a terrible secret. It's called "A Sleepwalker's Guide to Everything." I expect the film to run 13 to 14 minutes in length.

Looking for a talented editor to work on a project rather than hourly basis who is primarily doing this to build a reel. I am also looking for someone who wants to work on future projects which will probably be shoot on either super 16mm or 35mm in the coming year.

Contact Craig at grendelent@aol.com.
