This month Sí TV, the first and only English-language Latino cable network, celebrates its first year on the air. To mark the occasion, the network will air the cable premiere of James Cameron’s award-winning series Dark Angel on February 25, as part of a six-hour marathon leading into the debut of the network’s first scripted series Circumsized Cinema.
When the channel launched a year ago, it did so with an infusion of funding from EchoStar Communications Corporation (DISH), Time Warner Inc., Syndicated Communications Ventures, Columbia Capital, Rho Ventures, DND Capital Partners, Llano Partners and Barshop Ventures. At launch the network could be seen in 6.5 million homes and in a year has grown to over 9 million. The network currently has carriage agreements with Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Grande Communications, and EchoStar’s DISH Network. Most recently Sí TV announced its availability on Time Warner digital basic in New York and New Jersey.
“I can’t believe it’s already been a year since our launch. The first year has been a tremendous success, and we’re only getting started. We were thrilled to be named one of Multichannel News’ Top 10 Next Networks,” said Jeff Valdez, co-founder and chairman of Sí TV.
The response to the network from the advertising community has been overwhelmingly positive as well. Sí TV launched strong with such advertisers as Wal-Mart, Sears, and Sony Music and now touts Burger King, Adidas, X-Box, GMC, Target, and Proctor & Gamble among the network’s list of three dozen blue-chip advertisers.
The idea for Sí TV was initially born out of the success of Comedy Compadres, a stand-up comedy show produced by Valdez. The show’s success convinced Valdez there was a need for a network that catered to English-speaking Latinos. Valdez and business partner Bruce Barshop established Sí TV as a production company in 1997 and produced shows such as Café Ole and Funny is Funny. In 2000 Sí TV’s The Brothers Garcia launched and became one of Nickelodeon’s most acclaimed shows. At the same time, Valdez continued to endeavor to launch his dream network.
“Our growth to over nine million households is a testament to the demand of Generation Sí,” said Sí TV COO Leo Perez, in reference to the network’s core viewers, English-dominant Latinos between the ages of 18 and 34. “English dominant Latinos represent the majority of spending power in the community and our network tagline, ‘Speak English. Live Latin.’, best describes our audience.”

Latino Casting in Atlanta, GA
I am contacting you regarding the NALIP association and I hope you will share this with your members. This is for any hispanic talent in the Atlanta area, as there is no travel budget for this project. Some background...Stir is an Atlanta casting company and has been contracted to find Hispanic / Latino men for an upcoming photo shoot. The client is CDW ( www.cdw.com ) and they are looking for business casual, Hispanic men to be used in an upcoming promotion. The shoot will involve the chosen people to be "working" in an office environment doing office work (typing on computer, answering phone, meetings, etc.) and requires NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. We are looking for "real people" not models. The chosen talent will make $800 for about 4 hours worth of work.
The first step is a casting, being held this Tuesday between 11 am and 6:30 pm. A map and complete details are here www.thestir.net/castings/
We simply need to take some shots of potential talent that our client can then chose from. The process is very quick and should not take longer than about 15 minutes (depending on how many people are there). Once the talent is selected, they will be given a time-slot between March 1 and March 4 for their photo shoot. Again, they will work for 4-5 hours, being on set and getting shot by the photographer. See the website for a complete description of what we are looking for.
We really need a good showing of Hispanic men as they are under-represented in national advertising. If you have any question, please call me directly at 678-462-7987.
Thank you and have a great day.
Sincerely,
Radford Harrell
