Nosotros and the LA Casting Connection Announce American Latino 2005 National Star Search Casting Workshop Series

Nosotros Organization has joined forces with the LA Casting Connection LLC to create the AMERICAN LATINO 2005 - National Star Search & Casting Workshop Series traveling to seven major cities in America.

(January 18, 2005 - Hollywood, CA)  For the first time in its 35-year history, the Nosotros Organization and its President, Jerry Velasco, are joining forces with an outside entity, the LA Casting Connection LLC, to create American Latino 2005 - National Star Search and Casting Workshop Series that will reach out, on a national level, implementing one of the organization's original mission statements.  As defined by its founder, Ricardo Montalbán, one of Nosotros' primary goals is to go out into the Latino communities to seek out, promote, nurture and support the talents of Latino performers.

Nosotros - "Us" in Spanish - was founded in 1970 by legendary actor Ricardo Montalbán to improve the image of Latinos/Hispanics as they are portrayed in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera; to expand their employment opportunities in the industry; to train its members to become better actors and industry professionals; and lastly, to reach out to the community and seek creative youngsters and encourage them to enter their chosen profession in the entertainment industry.  Original board members included Desi Arnaz, Vikki Carr and Anthony Quinn among others.  Nosotros has been instrumental in furthering the careers of many actors such as Edward James Olmos, Salma Hayek, Lupe Ontiveros and Lorenzo Lamas.

According to Mr. Velasco, "The American Latino 2005 Casting Workshop Series will educate adult and young Hispanic actors on all aspects of the entertainment business and on the dangers of coming to Hollywood unprepared.  We will give them guidance on how to prepare for that experience and provide a way for them to network with Nosotros after we leave their city.  Every workshop participant joins Nosotros with a one year membership."

The American Latino 2005 Casting Workshops will provide a rare opportunity to learn the business of show business and make valuable contacts with actors, casting directors, Hollywood agents and managers.

Coinciding with the workshops is the American Latino 2005 National Star Search, a corporate-sponsored competition where winners are selected from each regional workshop and are flown to Los Angeles in the summer of 2005 for the American Latino 2005 Hollywood Showcase at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre located near the intersection of Hollywood & Vine in Hollywood, CA.

Hello friends, here we are again asking that you come and support this horrible masochistic habit of ours called theatre.  I hope to see you all there.  Here is the info:

--Pete Pano and David De Leon

Terror Alert!  Code Orange!  The S.O.B. Theatre Co. has hijacked Bertollt Brecht's Mother Courage and is driving it into the quagmire that is modern day Iraq!  Brecht's classic play is about a war of profit, dressed up by political leaders as a "moral crusade."  Sound familiar?  In our current climate of fear and government deception, Mother Courage is now more relevant than ever.  While keeping true to the play's anti-war dogma, the S.O.B.s revel in the absurd humor so abundant, and often overlooked, in Brecht's work.

This Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, come down to Theatre/Theater and see what all the buzz is about.

PIONEERING PRODUCERS ANNOUNCE PLAY MORE TV CAPITALIZING ON EXPLODING VIDEO GAMER MARKET!

First ever, nationally syndicated show covering the video gamer craze set to roll out at the 2005 NATPE convention!

New York, NY, January 11, 2005 - AIM Tell-A-Vision announces their next project, Play More TV, to debut on broadcast television this fall.  The new syndicated weekly program capitalizes on the exploding video gamer market, one that surpasses other entertainment categories in generating revenue and exerts unprecedented influence on the movie and music industries.

"Play More is our most exciting project to date and a natural extension of our current program-ming roster," said Robert Rose, CEO of AIM Tell-A-Vision.  "The young demographics of the video game industry are very similar to the viewership base of our other programs.  Gamer growth represents another exploding category underserved on broadcast television.  Play More allows us to continue our mission of being the first and the best at creating compelling content for hard-to-reach and coveted demographics."

Play More brings the creative elements of video games to the program by incorporating a fast-paced, magazine-style format with a 'live' virtual host.  In addition to featuring the latest gamer news, reviews and player shortcuts, Play More includes in-depth, human-interest pieces on the people behind the scenes and the players themselves, as well as reviews on the latest

techno-gadgets, trends and DVD releases.

"Our newly created distribution division, AIM Tell-A-Vision Distribution, will screen the program for stations at the annual NATPE convention held in Las Vegas later this month," said Rose.

"Once again, the savvy creative team responsible for the out-of-the-box and in-your-face style of AIM TV programming has produced a show that connects with the gamer mindset.  There's a tremendous void that needs to be filled between the gamer industry and viewers.  Play More TV will set the standard for other shows," crows AIM TV distribution head, Ernest Cartwright.

Play More TV is produced by AIM TV's multi-award winning production company, Maximás Productions.  Executive Producer, Robert Rose and Supervising Producer, Renzo Devia oversee the production effort.

NALIP MEMBER: Yazmin Rijos-Ortiz,    Shines In Berlin's PowerWerk, At The ITEA'S and The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture's Annual Conference

Los Angeles, CA January 17, 2005 --

"Technology is moving us closer to our goals," said filmmaker/actress and NALIP member Yazmin Ortiz at the three-day industry ITEA conference for film professionals at the Universal Sheraton last week.

"Whether you agree or disagree with the emergence of digital cinema, we all benefit from the opportunities that it has brought," said the director/ actor. "You can see the opportunities that have opened for the independent film-maker. When I first began making films, we were undergoing the digital trans-formation, so I got to see the possibilities of each of the technologies and decided to go with the newest one. I look at all the possibilities and the amount of time and money saved and I can't justify (other than for aesthetic reasons) spending what used to be spent making films. It is also clear to me that these possibilities have also brought issues like that of having too many choices of a scene in editing for example; or working too fast, but the benefits outnumber any problems it might bring. We are living in the era of globalization and technology, so we must go with the wave or, ultimately, you will be left behind. He, with the most advanced knowledge will be able to tell stories, providing, of course, there is a story to be told to begin with."

SciFi Channel Revamps 'Galactica'

by Janice Rhoshalle Littlejohn

The Associated Press

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - The Sci Fi Channel is bringing back ``Battlestar Galactica,'' ABC's campy 1970s space opera, with a boost from original series star Richard Hatch.

The 59-year-old actor first appears in the third episode of the new series, which is shooting this day at an abandoned warehouse near the base of Vancouver's Port Mann Bridge.  Galactica fleet Capt. Lee ``Apollo'' Adama (Jamie Bamber) is taken hostage by a group of convicts led by Tom Zarek (Hatch).

The cast includes Edward James Olmos as Cmdr. William Adama; Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin; Katee Sackhoff as cocky, cigar-wielding Kara ``Starbuck'' Thrace; Grace Park as Galactica pilot and Cylon sleeper agent Sharon ``Boomer'' Valerii; former Victoria's Secret model Tricia Helfer as Cylon seductress Number Six, and James Callis as mad scientist Gaius Baltar.

When we last saw the rag-tag ``Battlestar'' bunch, they were on the run from the robotic Cylons who had nearly obliterated the human race.  Now with supplies waning as fast as their weapons and their hope, Cmdr. Adama and President Roslin find their biggest challenge is the survival of humanity.

``The show will still incorporate elements of a post-9/11 world and the Iraqi war world,'' says Moore of the series' ripped-from-the-headlines topicality.

``What I like about science fiction is the idea that things that matter to me in American culture today, that I have an opportunity to explore those things, to comment on them ... without having to write a `West Wing' or an `NYPD Blue,''' Moore says.  ``Here's another world, and it's a lens through which we can view our own.''

LATINA CASTING: CONFESIONES/CONFESSIONS DOCUMENTARY

NALIPsters,

After having worked on two Reality TV shows and "others' " documentaries, it is time to do my own productions.  I am producing a documentary and need your assistance in circulating the following posting within the Latino community to any of your contacts that you consider appropriate.  As the ad describes, I am looking for real "English-speaking" Latinas.  The shoot is taking place soon on Saturday, January 29th.

Any assistance given to casting the widest net in spreading the word around would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Louis E. Perego Moreno

Skyline Features

Are you dying to confess something you have done in your life?  Is something you regret weighing heavily on your conscience?  Do you have a vengeance story you would like to get off your chest (whether you regret it or not)?  Any "he-done-you-wrong" stories?  Have you fantasized about doing something terrible that makes you feel badly for even having considered it?  Would you like to be forgiven?  It's up to you.

This is modern-day cleansing.  Imagine you can get it off your chest without the assistance of a priest in a confessional box.  All you have to do is kneel on a prayer stool (pew) and tell your story to a camera.

This is a documentary consisting of individual monologues: "Real people in real situations."  This is part of a series of "What it means to be Latina in the U.S."

If you are selected, this project shoots in Manhattan on Saturday, 01/29/05.  All we ask is for 30 minutes of videotaping time.

Requirements

Born in the U.S. or Latin America

You do not have to be an actress

This is a non-union job

No payment for involvement

No age limitation: 18-85

English-language only

Any Latino of any race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability

Length of confession: 3-10 mins.

Photo preferable, but not mandatory

If interested please send your "confessional" story via e-mail for consideration. The second step is to invite you for a personal meeting in front of a small production committee before being accepted for filming.

GAFFERS, GRIPS, and PA's NEEDED--

JANUARY 23rd (San Antonio, TX)

NALIPsters,

Hello..allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Joe D. Jimenez.  I am a producer of short films and music videos.  Currently, I am producing my first project in San Antonio.  It is a music video titled "Belly Dancer" for Grammy award-winning artist Bubba Hernandez.  Bubba is the bass player for Brave Combo (http://www.brave.com), which won the 2000 Grammy for Best Polka Album.

I am working on this current project so that Bubba has something fresh and new to handout at this year's Grammy awards since Brave Combo is once again nominated for a Grammy.  This year's Grammy awards will be held
February 13, 2005.

Jose Lauro Mata (http://www.cenozoic.com), an award-winning director, will direct the video.  This particular music video will include belly dancers and cumbia dancers.  Since I am new to
San Antonio, I was wondering if you might be able to assist me in locating a few extra crew hands.  I am specific-ally seeking a gaffer, a couple of grips and a few PA's.  We plan to shoot this video on Sunday, January 23, 2005 from about 11 a.m. to about 5 p.m.

This is a low budget project.  Therefore, compensation would be limited to video credit and DVD copy of the finished product.  If you know of anyone interested in this project, please have him/her contact me via email or call 512-557-0557.

Regards,

Joe D. Jimenez
