EAST LOS ANGELES REPERTORY THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES IT'S 2005 THEATRICAL SEASON

East Los Angeles - East LA Rep, the ambitious young company announces its second full season bringing live theatre to the communities of East Los Angeles.  The 2005 season include: a pair of classics, new works by two Chicano playwrights, and East LA Rep's second world premiere.

First up is, The House on
Mango Street (Feb. 18 - Mar. 13) by Sandra Cisneros adapted for the stage by Amy Ludwig.  This classic book comes to life as the older Esperanza returns to her childhood barrio on Mango Street.  There she finds her younger self and together they recall the events that helped shape the woman she has become.  Performances to be held at La Casa Del Mexicano Theater in Boyle Heights.

Following is the world premiere of Donde Estan?/Where Are They? (April 1 - 24) by Roxanne E. Sanchez, resident playwright. In Donde Estan? an American documentary filmmaker attempts to make sense of the unsolved murders of over 300 women that have plagued
Ciudad Juarez - the border city to El Paso - for the last decade, only to be confronted with fear, lies, and silence.  Performances to be held at La Casa Del Mexicano Theater in Boyle Heights.

The third production will be 14 (June 3 - 26) by the emerging Chicano playwright, Jose Casas.  The death of 14 Mexicans crossing the
Arizona desert is the trigger for this play that skewers border policies and race relations with an ensemble comprised of 2 white actors and 2 Latinos that portray everyone from an upper-middle-class socialite from Arizona to a day laborer from Los Angeles.  Performance location TBA.

This summer marks East LA Rep's third annual Free Shakespeare at East LA Parks with the mounting of the classic tragedy, Romeo & Juliet (Aug. 20 - Sept.18).  An ensemble takes on one of Shakespeare's most popular plays giving it a Latino twist al fresco.  Weekend performances will tour to various parks TBA.

Closing the season will be Drive My Coche (Oct. 28 - Nov. 13) the newest play by veteran Chicano playwright Roy Conboy.  This one-man show with music takes us back to the days of the Vietnam War, the streets of LA, and a 1952 Chevy Bel Air. Drive My Coche was commissioned by the Latino Theatre Initiative/CTG. Performance location TBA.

East LA Rep was founded by a group of friends eager to see theatre in their childhood neighborhoods bringing a new "rep" to
East Los Angeles.  The plays are produced in English and provide roles for Latino actors.  Works by playwrights of Latino heritage are highlighted in an attempt to bring recognition to work overlooked by mainstream theaters and unknown by the general audience.

SEEKING DIRECTOR FOR FEATURE FILM

I'm seeking a director for a screenplay that I've just finished writing. It's called FIXED MARK, a romance told in a very abstract way. It's a poignant and comical look at love, based on Shakespeare's Sonnet 116. It's very witty.

I'm looking for a director who is looking to build his/her resume. There's no payment involved in this project. The only payment offered is exposure from film festivals and screenings. The film will be shoot with a Panasonic Pro AG-DVC7 MiniDV Proline Camcorder, with a low-budget of about $1,500. We will be filming during weekends in CT. I'm looking for people who really want to make something great, and that are serious about their work.

Please contact Sarah Oliveira at: smojlh1@sbcglobal.net.

FRONT OF SOME EXECUTIVES, POTENTIAL PRODUCERS...

If I sent you this e-mail---  IT IS BECAUSE YOU MAY HAVE A LARGE NETWORK OF ACTORS THAT YOU KNOW OR WORK WITH, or.... there is a part I have a mind for you to play--not for just the reading, but iN THE SERIES ITSELF...I have seen, or heard about--ALL OF YOU AS PERFORMERS---and sought out your e-mail addresses.
