NALIPster: there is still time and space to apply to NALIP's
first Latino Media Market. You now have until January
22 to complete your package or pitch, and get it to
NALIP.
- Remember when producers Cristina Ibarra and John Valadez had
a strategic meeting at NALIP's 2002 Conference with PBS executive
Gustavo Sagastume, and came away with $50,000 for their Conquistador
documentary? LMM is designed to deliver this kind of
business to your project.
- Remember those 'sample pitch' workshops we've done at Conferences,
but you always wished you were in the room with a real buyer
or executive who could say yes, or say why not? LMM is designed
to put you in those meetings.
- Remember Jeff Valdez's great Keynote Speech at Conference V
about the excitement and opportunity at Si TV? Now they
are coming to LMM, to give you the best chance to set up your
unscripted series idea.
- Remember that terrific blog between LITI co-editor Alex Mendoza
and The Devil Inside producer Danny Rodriguez, about
making their first under-$500K movie? Why not bring YOUR
package to the LMM direct-to-dvd section, and try to get your
film up and going in 2005?
Sure, you can still come to Conference VI and enjoy networking,
reunions, celebrations of our makers, keynotes, hands-on workshops
and seminars. But now, like at IFP Market or Tribeca All
Access, you can do that plus do business, as producers,
writers, directors, filmmakers!
Octavio Marin, LMM Project Director, and I hope you won't miss
this opportunity, so in honor of the rain and the New Year and
busy lives, we're extending to you more days to get everything
together. You have a shot: be one of the first.

Currently Loteria de la Cumbia is in the top 20 on the International
World music charts.
Maneja Beto
From the traditional sounds of Mexico, to the postmodern moods
of brit pop bands, Maneja Beto produces sounds with no conception
of borders, diverse and eclectic, accented by a political conscience,
and a willingness to defy prepackaged genres. More than that they write
songs that make you think, dance and feel - all at the same time.
Los Skarnales
Frenzied ska and old-style pachuco boogie come together
in the latest from Los Skarnales. The
band bristles with energetic dance-hall rhythms, rockabilly, Latin
soul and even a little swing and zydeco, all played with a punk-rock
attitude. The wild,
bilingual mixture is a natural for the six-man group.
