Join Outgoing NALIP Membership Coordinator Abel Salas for Birthday Send-off

Pachanga Happening on Aug. 17th

After Rocket Science & Salsa Performance

Yes it’s true, Abel Salas has finally let go of NALIP as he transitions more completely into his new job as Membership and Registration Coordinator at NATPE, the National Association of Television Program Executives. LITI subscribers have been fortunate to have Erick Garcia, formerly of Moctesuma Esparza’s office, in Abel’s old slot as the interim Membership Programs staff person. Thank you Erick.

In a goodbye gesture, Abel would like to invite all to LA area readers and NALIPsters to celebrate his big move and his birthday with a party on Tuesday, Aug. 17th at the Zephyr Theatre, 7456 Melrose Ave. He hopes you’ll join him in support of the Picante Pictures production of ROCKET SCIENCE & SALSA: THE SHAYLA RIVERA STORY, a one-woman play featuring puertorriqueña Shayla Rivera, a former NASA aerospace engineer who left her career in science for stand-up comedy.

The autobiographical production is directed by legendary Debbie Allen. The script is co-written by Michael Ajakwe, Jr., a writer/producer on UPN’s comedy series EVE. It runs Tuesdays and Wednesdays through Sept. 1st at the Zephyr. Producers envision the show as the basis for an eventual sitcom… the Latina women’s answer to The George Lopez Show.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20 each, but Abel’s guests and NALIPsters get a $5 discount on admission. Seating is limited, so if you want him to reserve your ticket, e-mail him at Regato65@aol.com and join him in celebration of yet another crazy year in the business while helping to launch the lovely Shayla Rivera as the next big thing in Latina comedy. He would really love to see you all there!.

AIM TELL-A-VISION AND MAXIMÁS PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF NEW SHOW FOR FALL ‘04

Pioneering Producers Announce “Firm Go” Status for Historic Third Year of Programming with “American Latino”

New York, August 3, 2004 – Even before arriving in living rooms across America this fall, American Latino TV (ALTV), a new nationally syndicated, half-hour culture and lifestyle program debuting this October, will be the largest distributed weekly program in English produced for U.S. Latinos. AIM Tell-A-Vision, producers of American Latino TV and the award-winning Urban Latino TV, secured station renewals in key U.S. markets and added over 20 new markets to its distribution list, giving the new program an all-time high reach of over 85% of Hispanic Homes. The show, which targets the largest untapped market today, young, U.S.-born Latinos (over 60% of all U.S. Latinos), has helped solidify AIM Tell-A-Vision’s position as the leader of English television programming for U.S. Latinos.

Stations renewing with AIM Tell-A-Vision for the new American Latino TV include KABC-ABC in Los Angeles, WCBS-CBS in New York, WFOR-CBS in Miami and WBBM-CBS in Chicago. Additionally, the show secured clearances for the Fall in several new markets, such as St. Louis, Milwaukee, Raleigh, N.C., Nashville, Reno, Nev., Jacksonville, Fla., and more -establishing the show and its producers as the widest distributed programming service available for U.S. Latinos in English.

The multi-award winning production team of Robert Rose of AIM Tell-A-Vision and Renzo Devia of Maximás Productions is in its historic third year of syndicated programming. The launch of the brand new American Latino TV marks the legitimacy of the growth of the underserved segment of the U.S. Latino market, U.S. born Latinos, according to Rose.

“American Latino is a reflection of what is going on all over the United States, not just in large, urban areas,” states Rose, President of AIM Tell-A-Vision and Executive Producer of the new show. “The clearances and reach of the show into new markets in the nation’s heartland reflect this phenomenon. We are very excited to help showcase Latinos’ voices in areas that may have previously been left out of the boom that’s occurring.”

Every week, American Latino TV, hosted by Liza Quin, a talented vocal artist and songwriter, will take an entertaining and informative look into the world of American Latinos and uncover the “cultura” that is influencing mainstream culture in the U.S.

The show is set to launch on October 4, 2004, on over 75 outlets in over 70 markets across the U.S., representing over 51 million homes.
