NEWS

NALIP NOTICIAS: "Parents of the Year," a powerful new film by NALIP member James Scurlock will screen a final time at the L.A. Film Festival tomorrow, June 22nd, at 9:45 p.m. at the Directors Guild of America.  This is the only screening that Yolanda and Rogelio Garcia will be attending.  Tickets are available at www.lafilmfest.com or 866FILMFEST. Visit www.parentsoftheyear.com for more information. "Parents of the Year" was an official selection at the 2004 Silver Docs Festival held recently in Silver Spring, Maryland. And NALIP producer/director Jorge Aguirre premiered a segment on the “Civil War Sub” during last night’s season kick-off of the PBS series “History Detectives” last night to great acclaim. Look for another of Aguirre’s historical documentary work there on July 12.

NALIP is also proud to co-present MARIA FULL OF GRACIA with the IFP/Los Angeles Film Festival on Thursday, June 24 at 7:15 pm (Laemmle Sunset Theatre 1) Tickets are $10 and only a few will be available at the door. Kudos to IFP and Project Involve for a successful “Executives of Color” panel and Diversity Expo held on Friday, June 18th. The panelists were all extraordinary and included our own board member David Ortiz.

The Slam/Mixer is generously hosted by Smokin’ Mirrors Studios, 4928 Hollywood Blvd, and will offer live DJ entertainment from 10 p.m. to midnight immediately following the screenings.

POV, America's most-watched independent documentary showcase, is pleased to present:

A Film by CARLOS SANDOVAL and CATHERINE TAMBINI

FARMINGVILLE

TUESDAY, JUNE 22 at 10 PM on PBS affiliates nationwide

About the film: The shocking hate-based attempted murders of two Mexican day laborers catapult a small Long Island town into national headlines, unmasking a new front line in the border wars: suburbia. For nearly a year, Carlos Sandoval and Catherine Tambini lived and worked in Farmingville, New York, to capture first-hand the stories of residents, day laborers and activists on all sides of the debate. Farmingville was honored with a Special Jury Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, won Best Documentary at CineFestival 2004, deadCenter Film Festival and San Diego Latino Film Festival 2004, and received the Human Rights Award at the 2004 RiverRun Film Festival.

"Farmingville is a primer for anyone—whether lawmaker or citizen—who cares to better understand the usually unseen cost of America's appetite for cheap labor." Carolyn Curiel, New York Times Editorial

"Farmingville... should become required viewing for every decision-maker and local official in the State of New York."—Newsday Editorial

Hi Jeff-

I'm casting a new prime time reality series for NBC.  It's called "Escape Your Life" and it will air this Fall for 7 weeks.  The title pretty much sums it up.  For those who are local, they can call Dani Sodaro at 818-566-8767 to set up an audition time, or they can log onto NBC.com and go to the "contestant" page and click the link for direction on how to apply for the show.

This show is going to be fantastic--lots of prizes and we're shooting in an AMAZING location.  Please let everyone know that they must have a valid passport for travel before applying.

Thanks Jeff!
