The Latino Producers Academy™ is an intensive seven-day professional development workshop for Latino/a film, series television and public television documentary producers.  It is designed to support both emerging and mid-career professionals with projects in development and pre-production.  The purpose of this program is to prepare you for what lies ahead both on your productions and in your developing career as a professional producer. It will provide strong and practical information about the components necessary to develop, package, produce and distribute your next film, series or slate of future projects, from development and material acquisition through post-production, marketing and distribution.

Producers must apply for the Academy as a feature, documentary or network track candidate, must go through a selection process and then be invited to attend.  Applicants should have production experience, and have at least one produced piece of work on which they played a key role, whether television, feature, short or student film.  (Limited experience on major national film, t.v. or documentary production projects, however, will not be considered a negative.)  Network applicants must have a series sample script completed, in addition to an episode or series work-in-progress. Applicants must be members of NALIP. For more information, visit www.nalip.org. To download an application, click here. Selected applicants must provide they’re own transportation to and from Tucson, Arizona. Last year’s participants are still raving about the experience! The Explosion of the Latino Entertainment Market

Who? What? Why and Where Is It Going?

The demand for Latino/Hispanic market focused entertainment product is exploding, with no signs of slowing down.

This market may offer substantial opportunities to counter L.A. County's "runaway production" woes. "Hollywood" based mainstream film and television content developers, production and post production companies, distributors and syndicators may be overlooking some of the most robust content demand opportunities residing in our own backyard. Come hear the perspectives of leading Latino entertainment, advertising and media professionals on how L.A.'s entertainment industry community could catch up with Miami and capitalize on this immediately accessible audience, which is projected to reach nearly $1 trillion in spending power by 2007. Moderating our panel of experts will be Paula Parisi, the Editorial Director for Features, The Hollywood Reporter. Panelists include:

* Ray Durazo, president of Durazo Communications (a leading Latino-owned public relations firm) and chair of the Latin Business Association

* Moctesuma Esparza, accomplished feature and television film producer ("Mi Familia-My Family, Selena")

* Santiago Ogradon, Executive Vice President/McDonalds, Castells & Asociados (a leading Latino advertising agency)

* Santiago Pozo, founder and president, Arenas Entertainment (a leading Latino production and distribution company)

* Andrew Thau, Chief Operating Officer, VOY Network, the new Latino-themed English language entertainment network.

Tickets are $45 for Century City Chamber of Commerce members ($60 for non-members).

Parking is $14 for valet and $9 for self-parking.

RSVPs must be received by NOON on May 24, 2004.
