Xavier CLASSIFIED FILMS

Queridisimos Cuates y
Cuatas,
I had the immense pleasure to see a
bunch of you at the NALIP Conference 5 this past week. For
those that were not there, my deepest condolences, you missed
a great gathering.
The Conference was a great opportunity
to further your career with the presence of high powered
executives, and not only of the Latino kind, but also very
high powered executives of the other kind. Acquisition and
Development execs from the studios (especially many from the
TimeWarner Family of companies) were there.
If you were not there, you missed a
chance to pitch your project to executives from Warner Bros,
New Line, TNT, Warner Independent, CAA, WMA, Endeavor, Arenas,
Maya Pictures, LPB and many more, too many to list them
all. It may be that the pitching sessions, brilliantly handled
by Samantha Smith, were the most successful of all the many
activities at the conference. I am positive; thanks to the
impressions I gathered from both sides of the pitching
sessions, that these will result on more than one project
being green lighted.
The entire event went so smoothly,
with the very few and minor glitches only attributable to the
more than expected attendance to the event. And that IS GOOD
NEWS! Kathryn Galan, NALIP’s Exec Director, and
Tery Lopez, Conference Coordinator, worked very hard before
and during the event to insure that the delegates not only
found it productive but also great fun.
And chingao, what a great fun it was.
Meeting old friends (Luca, Julio, Danny, Jose Luis, Antonio,
Peggy, Leonardo, Rogelio, Mocte, Alex, Jeff,
David, Piedad, Claudio, and many more to list them all),
making new ones and having a good taco-de-ojo, can only be
compared with the business opportunities that were opened
there.
The atmosphere was very friendly,
welcoming and relaxed. Probably the best party was the one
that was created impromptu by a bunch of friends (at one time
more than 80) getting together with a guitar in hand to sing
our lungs out in the hotel bar till 5 o’clock in the morning
(yes, by virtue of that magic realism we Latinos enjoy so
much, some bottles of tequila were made magically a reality
after the bar officially closed).
Again, to those that couldn’t be
there, my most sincere condolences… but I know that I will see
you at next one.
Salud, Amor y un chorro de
negocio pa tochos,
Alex
