Video Resources
Position
Description – February 2004
EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR
The
Organization
National
Video Resources (NVR) is a national not-for-profit
organization dedicated to increasing the distribution of
independently produced media — film, video and other motion
media.
NVR
designs and implements projects that enable individuals to
access independent media more readily, and that enable public
organizations such as libraries, educational institutions and
other non-profits to acquire and use these materials. NVR also manages the
Program for Media Artists (formerly the Rockefeller Media Arts
Fellowships) and other programs that benefit makers, and it
commissions and publishes research on issues of concern to the
field.
Established
by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1990, NVR has grown steadily
in size, staff and number of projects for more than 14
years. Today it
has an annual budget of approximately $2 million and a staff
of 8 full-time and 2 part-time employees. It receives funding
from foundation and government (city, state and federal)
sources. Current
and past funders include such organizations as the
Rockefeller, Ford, and MacArthur Foundations, the National
Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Science
Foundation. NVR
has built significant relationships with the American Library
Association, Grantmakers in Film and Electronic Media and with
public libraries and academic institutions throughout the
country. It has a
distinguished Board of Trustees and identifies prominent
advisors for each of its projects.
Further
information on NVR and its current programs is available at www.nvr.org.
The
Position
NVR’s
Executive Director is the organization's Chief Executive
Officer, reporting to the Board of Trustees. The Executive Director
is responsible for administration of the organization, program
building and fundraising initiatives, board development,
financial oversight of all operations, and for planning and
implementation processes. The Executive Director
promotes the programs and purposes of the organization to the
independent film/video field — artists, distributors, funders
and other investors and policy makers — and to the end
users. The
Executive Director is responsible, with the Board of Trustees,
for developing the organization’s policies, goals, and
priorities.
Experience
and Qualifications
A
strong interest in, and commitment to, independent film and
video;
Proven
fundraising experience, and — ideally — experience in
revenue-generating activities. Considerable experience in the
field, including distribution and marketing; An affinity with
NVR’s mission and current programs; The imagination and
ability to design, develop and implement new partnerships and
new programs that will continue and fortify NVR’s mission;
Strong organizational skills, leadership skills and
inter-personal skills.
Salary
negotiable.
Excellent benefits package. NVR is committed to
diversity on its staff and board. It invites nominations
and applications without regard to race, ethnicity, gender,
physical disability or sexual
preference.
