The new guide will also include Latino Production Companies, Film School Programs, Funding and Production Resources, along with information on Diversity Initiatives.

This year we will add Distribution Companies for independent films, shorts, TV and documentaries, plus credits on recent Latino films.

"ROBBING PETER" RECEIVES NOMINATION FOR BEST DEBUT PERFORMANCE AT THE 2005 INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS.

As the producer of "Robbing Peter" - honored with the Best Feature by Jury Selection award at the 2004 Nosotros Film Festival - it is my pleasure to inform you that longtime Nosotros member Louie Olivos, Jr. has received a nomination for Best Debut Performance at the 2005 Independent Spirit Awards. Nominations were announced this morning. "Robbing Peter" received three additional nominations, including Best Supporting Actress, Best First Screenplay, and the John Cassavetes Award, which honors the best feature made for under $500,000.

TOTALAXIS, SAG AND NALIP JOIN AGAIN FOR SHORT FLIX FEST @ CINESPACE

On January 11th, 2005 TotalAXIS, SAG and NALIP will join once again for a one-of-a kind event. Three events all wrapped into one! The evening will start with our second installment of our Diversity for Dummies Series followed by a one time Shorts FLIX Fest. This fest will be around an hour long and will include five (5) of the best shorts made in 2004 for you to start of your year with some great filmmaking. Stay tuned for more details...

DIRECTV/IFC NAME "FARMINGVILLE" A FINALIST IN ITS 'TRUER THAN FICTION' FEATURE COMPETITION

"Farmingville,” a searing examination of the tensions surrounding the presence of Mexican day laborers in a small Long Island town has been named a DIRECTV/IFC Truer Than Fiction finalist.

The award is presented to an emerging director of nonfiction features who has not yet received significant attention and includes a $20,000 unrestricted grant, funded by DIRECTV and IFC (Independent Film Channel). The winner will be announced at the Independent Spirit Awards ceremony, which will air live on IFC at 5:00 pm EST, Saturday, February 26, 2005, and is edited for rebroadcast on Bravo the same evening at 10:000 pm EST/PST, following an exclusive one-hour red carpet show at 9:00 pm EST/PST.

Written by Al Gonzalez & Cate Rachford, the documentary was inspired by the music of retired mariachis Valentine & Maria Elena Gonzalez.

BIZ: "SIDEWAYS" & "MARIA FULL OF GRACE" LEAD SPIRIT AWARD NOMINATIONS

Alexander Payne's "Sideways" received six nominations and Joshua Marston's "Maria Full of Grace" was nominated five times for the Independent Spirit Awards, presented by the IFP/ Los Angeles. Other films leading the pack this year include Rodney Evans' "Brother to Brother" with four nominations and Shane Carruth's "Primer," Mario F. de la Vega's "Robbing Peter," and Bill Condon's "Kinsey" all with four as well. "Over the last 20 years, the Spirit Awards have consistently celebrated the most talented artists - known and unknown - working in independent film. UNIVISION DROPS LAWSUIT AGAINST NIELSON
Univision Communications has withdrawn a lawsuit alleging that Nielsen Media Research's new Local People Meter audience measurement system underestimated the number of Hispanic viewers. Nielsen said it also had dropped a counterclaim against Univision, the Spanish-language media giant controlled by billionaire A. Jerrold Perenchio. WRITEGIRL LOOKING FOR FEMALE LATINA WRITERS TO SERVE AS MENTORS FOR UNDERPRIVELEGED HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

WriteGirl is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization for inner-city high school girls centered on the craft of creative writing. Through one-on-one mentoring and monthly workshops, girls are given techniques, insights and hot tips for great writing in all genres from professional women writers. Workshops and mentoring sessions explore poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, songwriting, journalism, screenwriting, playwriting, persuasive writing, journal writing, editing and more.

WriteGirl's season includes public readings, special events and the publication of an annual anthology. We welcome you to participate in the upcoming season. Every member of WriteGirl has the opportunity to make a difference in the futures of all of our teens, add to their own professional skills and make a lasting contribution to our community. The minimum time commitment for all volunteers is four hours per month, in addition to attending a half-day workshop one Saturday per month. Our season officially begins at the end of November and runs through June 2005.

DP & SOUND PERSON NEEDED IN L.A. FOR-- 'CELEBRATE A HEALTHY LIFE' TOUR (DEC 11-12, 2004)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “Celebra La Vida Con Salud” (Celebrate a Healthy Life) Tour needs a videographer and sound person to record:
A) The setting up of a health fair THIS SATURDAY (12/4) from 4:00-5:30PM @ Superior Super Warehouse 3831 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Lynwood,CA 90262
B) Basic short interviews of health fair participants at a party that night (sat) from 7:00-8:30PM in downtown Los Angeles @ La Golondrina, 17 West Olvera Street
C) The actual health fair THIS SUNDAY (12/5) from 11:00AM-3:00PM @ Superior Super Warehouse 3831 E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Lynwood,CA 90262

This is the last stop of a ten city tour comprising the primary Hispanic component of the Office of Minority Health’s “Closing the Health Gap” campaign. Celebra La Vida Con Salud aims to promote prevention as the key to good health, to encourage Latinos to take charge of their own health, and to celebrate the benefits of good health within families and communities.

At Celebra La Vida Con Salud LA we will need you to record shots and interviews regarding free medical screenings for all adults ( HIV, glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure), the entertainment -- radio station 107.1 Super Estrella broadcasting on-site, a NikeGO SuperBasketball clinic for youth ages 8-15, as well as some opening remarks made by four campaign representatives and partners.
