NIELSEN RATINGS 'REVAMP' UNPOPULAR WITH CUSTOMERS/POLITICIANS

Nielsen Media Research is facing criticism for the way the company has handled a move to a new method of measuring what TV shows are popular with viewers. Nielsen has promised to replace in 10 major markets its decades-old system of asking families to record information in "diaries." Nielsen's CEO contends the company hasn't been too slow to change data systems since such a revamp needed to be done cautiously. In the meantime, Congress is asking if the TV-ratings company needs oversight.   The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) (9/16)

Albuquerque, New Mexico

The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) and its Foundation are proud to present Maravilla, a 14-day celebration of Hispanic arts and culture featuring the Grand Opening of the Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts (REDCPA), announced Thomas E. Chávez, Executive Director of the NHCC, and Katherine Archuleta, Executive Director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation (NHCCF).  “This state-of-the-art complex enables us to showcase Hispanic performing arts in all their expressions.  From folklórico and ballet to opera and salsa to the latest films by the hottest Latino directors in Hollywood, it will all be here at the Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts.”

Maravilla opens on Friday, September 17 with a VIP reception hosted by the NHCC’s  National Advisory Board and continues through the weekend with a Grand Opening Concert headlined by the legendary jazz trumpeter and four-time Grammy® winner, Arturo Sandoval and America’s Beloved Tenor, Daniel Rodriguez.  The opening night concert will also feature an array of entertainment including mezzo- soprano Suzanna Gúzman, pop group Soluna and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and other musical and dance performances.

Maravilla will feature the Grand Opening of the the Roy E. AWARD-WINNING PRODUCERS OF AMERICAN LATINO TV

LAUNCH NEW WEEKLY PROGRAM THAT SIZZLES!

New York, September 14th, 2004 - A new twist on culturally relevant programming is about to arrive on syndicated television this fall. Latin Fuze is the first English-language program that is laser-targeted to young, Hispanic demographics with a distinct male perspective. A fast-moving, weekly half-hour magazine program, Latin Fuse will debut the week of October 4th alongside American Latino TV (ALTV). With the recent recognition of the acculturated Latino Market, Latin Fuze fittingly showcases the blending of contemporary Latin and American cultures, producing a fusion of lifestyles known as “Latin Fuze”.

AIM Tell-A-Vision, producers of American Latino TV and the multi award-winning Urban Latino TV, secured station clearances in record time in over 35 key U.S. markets representing 40 million homes and over 70% of Hispanic Homes in order to launch Latin Fuze. Key station clearances include KCAL in Los Angeles, WFOR-CBS in Miami and KPRC-NBC in Houston. Additional markets include New York, San Antonio, Dallas, San Francisco, St. Louis, San Diego and more.

The show, which targets the largest untapped market today -- young, U.S.-born Latinos (over 60% of all U.S. Latinos) -- helps to solidify AIM Tell-A-Vision’s position as the leader of English-language television programming for U.S. Latinos.

The multi-award winning production team of Robert Rose of AIM Tell-A-Vision and Renzo Devia of Maximas Productions is in its historic third year of syndicated programming. The launch of Latin Fuze along with American Latino TV marks the legitimacy of the growth of the underserved segment of the U.S. Latino market, U.S. born Latinos.

“The stations, advertisers and viewers have indicated that the time is right for more culturally relevant programming for today’s U.S. Latino market”, states Rose, President of AIM Tell-A-Vision and Executive Producer of the show. “Latin Fuze is the perfect companion piece to American Latino and is the first English-language show to target Latino males on a regular basis.”

Every week, Latin Fuze will take an entertaining, fun and fast-paced look at the fusion of U.S. Latino culture. The show is hosted by Jose Mangin, a talented national radio and television personality, Erika Rodriguez Martin, lead singer of a New York rock band along with roving correspondent Elena Sotomayor, who travels the U.S. in search of unique stories.  For more information, go to http://www.latinheat.com/television-archive.htm

"PUNTO Y RAYA" NOMINATED AS VENEZUELA'S OFFICIAL ENTRY TO THE 2004 OSCARS

Los Angeles, CASeptember 14, 2004  Elia Schneider’s “Punto y Raya,” (Step Forward) is Venezuela’s official entry for Best Foreign Language consideration in this year’s Oscar race.

“Punto y Raya” was immediately embraced by the local Venezuelan press during its local theatrical release end of August and has meanwhile established itself as the highest grossing local film of the year.  Picture was also winner of the Rita Award for Best Picture at the recent 2004 Los Angeles, Latino Int’l Film Fest (LALIFF) in July.  Producers Jose Novoa and Elia Schneider’s Unity Films label has garnered the Venezuelan entry for the Oscars on three previous occasions, noteably with Schneider’s first feature “Huelepega” (Glue Sniffer) as well as Novoa’s “Sicario” (Assassin for Hire) and “Orodiablo” (Devil’s Gold). All three pictures went on to win numerous international festival awards.

“Punto y Raya,” tells the story of two soldiers, one Venezuelan, the other Columbian, who are stationed on opposite sides the tension filled border between the neighboring countries.  The Columbian soldier was a volunteer enlister, the Venezuelan soldier’s vocation is desertion.  When the two camps aren’t shouting or shooting at each other, the guerrilla camps and local drug traffickers provide for ample distractions.  Enemies at first, the two become entangled in a love/hate relationship of surprising intensity.  Just as each thinks to have found an exit from the deadly spiral of violence surrounding them, they are each taken back to the border for a symbolic return with tragic consequences.

“Punto y Raya” garnered a series of Best Screenplay awards prior to production and was winner of the CNAC award in Venezuela – a crucial subsidy award allowing the film to complete its round of financing locally.

CMG also recently acquired int’l distribution rights to Chilean Oscar hopeful, “B-Happy” by Gonzalo Justiniano.  Company is screening “B-Happy” and “Punto y Raya” this Saturday in Beverly Hills for distributors and members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to qualify both films for Golden Globe consideration – Best Foreign Language Feature.
